they do need one, but the problem is that cooler only work while the ice pal is on it, meaning every night or everytime they go eat things will spoil. which is stupid, a fidge even without power can keep things cold for days as long as you don't open the door every 5sec.
They also eat from the food basket left to right.
Knowing this, you put whatever you want your pals to eat in the left most spot, potentially a buffer food like berries in the second and fill the rest with nonperishable food items like cotton candy or honey.
This way, all ranch and farm produce will go in the freezer/cooler.
Now you just need a vanwyrm cryst to assign it to the freezer/cooler.
Since it is also a dark type, it will never go to sleep and only shortly leaves to eat.
You will need Ice pal that can do night shift. Vanwyrm Cryst is the only one I think.
They will never touch them.
Cake in particular is best stored in the breeding farm since it does not spoil at all in there.
Stop splitting so many stacks. This isn't Ark. The mechanics are meant to be exploited. Thats why this game is so fun.
You can capture merchants and deploy them in base. This game is hilarious.
The fridge is a late-game item when you have Ice-only pals to baby sit it 24/7.
Also, I don't think putting items "...where pals can't reach.." is even possible.
My pals put Wood and Stone in every container with a space available. whether the container is inside a structure with closed doors, or whether the container is on the roof of a structure with no path for a pal to get to it.
The whole point should be that cooling should be easy to do, there is a buffer that's there to give the cooling pal enough time to eat, work elsewhere, take a break, etc. a cooling pal should not have to be on the box 24/7
just make sure your feed box is full with honey or cotton candy, so milk and eggs get put in the freezer/cooler.
Pals will take to fridge if no feed bowls available. Dont put out a bunch of feed bowls and keep extra slots full with splitting stacks for a unit of honey or cotton candy in food bowl. Then they will take to fridge as a workaround.
Cotton candy is the better choice so dont accidentally use when cooking.
