Is it just me or are the players far too weak?
I had a rather heated argument with a friend earlier about the players weapons being unbelievably weak compared to basically any pal ability, also how the player simply can not take a hit at all. Something is seriously wrong when a lv 5 wild pal can down the player with 2-3 attacks even though the player is lv 17 while equal level wild pals literally 1hit kill you. Of course my own pals can tank hits like a champ, but not me.

I was expecting this to be a pokemon-like game where I get to fight alongside my pal, not just sit there and have the pal do all the fighting for me. I wanted to be an active participant in battles, not just be a spectator.... but the more I play, the more this seems to be just a pokemon game with real-time combat and base building where the player is not allowed to participate in battles beyond switching pals in and out and occasionally throwing balls at something to capture it without risking instant death.
....which then made me think: Why give me weapons/dodging at all if I am not allowed to use them to any reasonable effect?

Am I missing something or is this really how it is?

i guess you are not understanding to builds
you can boost your attack by lvling it and then even support it by bonus damage from your Pals partner skill.

i mean i do not recommend it, but you do you, if you want to play this way, go for it. read some guides and make proper build for your playstyle.

OR, if you wanna tank things, instead of dodging... boost your HP get a good armor, get a Pals who can boost this..

it is on you how you will build your char

i finished the game fully. and yeah i agree.

the player character is a useless junk in combat.

Even with legendary gear and legendary weapons the player character feels borderline useless in combat. Even if you boost yourself up with attack stats from different places.

And lets not talk about the legendary lvl50 world bosses that hase some build in Anti player Bias defense. The only weapon that does something againts them is the rocket launcher.

The problem is all this works great in the head but does not work in practices.
The only real way to give players meaningfull stats and damage is cranking them up in the world settings or play on servers that modified them.

The player character itself is not really balanced againts bosses especialy endgame bosses.

thats not quite true...
i mean is viable to make specialised damage build and then 3 hit KO top level Pals... but i think its more effective and comfortable instead of going glascannon, just make some survival build with weight / stam / HP for common use. it can change in raids, when they get implemented

not really, you can make glascannon with specific group set... but as i said, for me it is not worthy to make specialised build like this

I found some better gear does a difference. my upgrade from crossbow to rare handgun was a huge step in damage potential. my biggest gripe is the durability of your armor...fighing doesnt make fun coz you always have the repaircost of your shield etc. in the brain ^^

You can definitely buff player damage up to a ridiculous degree. Personally, I've always played with player damage lowered down. But you could hypothetically do the opposite if you feel the default option isn't working for you. It would however make capturing a lot harder.

Im lvl 40 and killed lvl 50 froststallion in hard mode and i used legendary old bow... yeah it was over 15 min fight, but at least it was fun

What is your stat distribution? And what weapons do you use?
I can safely tank few attacks of lvl40+ bosses while dealing same dps as my pals so i strongly disagree, maybe your settings are messed up

My experience seems to be that I am weak against pals, and need my pals to fight other pals for me.

But I don't seem to have much issue with human characters, I can still hit them with a couple of headshots and they go down.

My feeling is this was intentional, you should be focusing on using your pal in combat and your attack stats are more for the end when you're trying to capture, you want to do little damage to slowly whittle them down to get the best capture chance.

pals is just helping you distracts the enemy the real making hit was you that way we a all crazy looking for legendary schematics weapon it have huge attack power...

I spent millions of in game gold on ammo.
Repairs were not an issue tough only was bad in the begining. Once you realise you only need green/Blue/Purple Gear at lvl40+ you save ALLOT of mats from not repairing or even using the lower level green/blue stuff.
They are waaaaay too expensive to Repair compared to the benefits those low level gear give.

I have not made it beyond lv 20 yet, and thanks to some people here i noticed the world settings. Definitely editing those because, as I mentioned, a wild pal of equal level to player can just 2hit the player. 1 hit for the shield, second that instakills.

And lets not even talk about how some pal attacks have AoE damage, nevermind what the endgame has.

yeah thats far from fun in my eyes... doing 1 damage for 15 min hoping it does not 1-2 hit kill you because of a single mistake or getting stuck in a tree/rock.

Btw frostalion is the easiest lvl50 legendary boss tough.
