A pal with a rocket launcher weapon, like the Mossanda Lux, could interrupt moves like that. Each shot knocks a pal down, even alpha pals that it makes fights and catching pals super easy. Well… the easiest it can get in your current situation. I highly suggest investing in one as soon as you can.

Considering how much defense shiny's tend to have I think its nearly impossible to capture until you get end-game builds.

You can interrupt by dealing a large chunk of damage or attempting to capture.

I don't have a solution, but just a similar story to share. Went into a cave at the volcano, and found the boss to be a level 40 Lovander. It... very much outleveled me, so I grit my teeth and prepared for a tough fight.

2 shots into the fight the Lovander makes a mad break for me and starts beeping. I panic and run, managing to get out of the blast radius... and find the level 40 Lovander dead from it's own explosion.

Free loot, I guess...

You can also interrupt it by throwing a sphere if its HP is low enough.

Just shooting them in general usually stops the self destruct.
