There are probably some videos on youtube with people showing off their base. Happens in every game with a build option.
Sadly I am such a lazy ass and my current base is a hot dumpsterfire. Pals in the water. Pals stuck in trees. Pals stuck in the surroundings. Yet I lovingly ignore them, dump my stuff and run away, running far away from my responsibilities.
In solo world you can set buildings to not break down outside of the circle.
Could easily decorate them more, but havent found the need to. Let them live open air and spaced apart to address size issues. Fully functional, no real issues ever. These are the ones on my solo play. Have done nicer on the co-op server I play.

If I disabled the setting for degrading out of base zone, could have done even nicer without issue.
i tried to start one but i gave up with the bad building mechanics. hopefully we get a major patch dedicated to building but till then i just live with all my stuff randomly placed within the circle radius
So just getting the essentials in and before I put pals down, I made the following. I kept pals away so the resources stay around then waited a little. Has some of all the basics to start with. Couple iron nodes, wood, stone, etc. I can put down some farms and would be a good hatchery start perhaps.
While larger bodies of water don't let you build on them, the small streams which use some water physics stuff do let you it seems.

I can do some prettying up in a bit with some gates, etc. Not optimal for long term without clearing some of the trees and berries, but enough of the area is usable at least to have some fun. Can use subsequent bases for more development. I just did it for fun, not a main save. But is good flat areas nearby and wonder if I can find a good iron node close...
