1) Prepare.
Get yourself leveled-up pals with an element that's not weak to the boss's attack, and that have attacks the boss is weak to. There's a rock/scissor/paper system you can find online pretty easily. You can feed them omelette for a 10% attack bonus, too. Also, shield, armor, blueprints (you'll get them in dungeons and sanctuaries), all that.
2) Know your pals.
Some are tanky, so dish out heavier damage but are glass cannons. Knowing which is which will be useful later.
3) Take your distance.
Your attack isn't much compared to your pal's, conserve your bullets for when you want to finish off a boss just enough to make them easy to capture. So take your distance, aim for the head if you really wanna shoot, but be far enough so you can dodge attack coming your way.
4) Observe and act.
Pals and enemies have cooldowns, with 3 to 4 skills depending whether they have a special. Bosses will focus on you and your pal alternatively, for a given amount of time.
Recalled pals regain health. You'll want to keep an eye on what's happening if you want to get through the ordeal.
- When they focus on your pal, attack, use your specials if any, when then focus on you, r run and roll.
- When they are charging an attack, recall your pal, switch to the next.
- When your pal has used all their skills, switch to the next (don't recall first, no need)
- If your pal is below 50% health, switch (urgent recalls might be useful).
4) Skills first, tank last.
My own strategy is to start with the most damaging pals, and finish with the most tanky.
Tanks will help you get the boss focused while you try capturing.
5) Don't sacrifice your mount.
If you're in an open air fight, you still can run away. Don't let your mount die, it will save you a trip back to get your gears, wish can really suck in some extreme climate regions.
This method is working for me, hopefully it can work for you.
