Why are my pals not going upstairs and working
I've built a base with two floors but my pals refuse to walk upstairs. The walls are 2 tiles high and I have two stairs next to each other so why won't even the small ones do it?
And when I add items to be created none of my pals go to my workstations and stand there until it's finished, they just create one item and then walk away.

Never build 2 floors, you will regret it.

Pathing is a problem, they need a LOT more space then you expect.
I have a three story (each level is 3 high) and it works fine but took me a while to get the pathing to work.

Normally, its not worth it

They're handicapped

Do you have doors? Mine wont path through 2 successive sets of doors.

Leave a one-block opening per stair block. For some reason if the pathing up the stairway isn't open enough, even the smallest of lamballs won't go up.

Small pals needs like a 1 tile wide, and 2 tile high space to go upstairs. And their pathfinding seems to work better if you build their beds upstairs first and spawn them in right before bedtime, so they are forced to configure their pathing to go to bed.

Bigger pals needs like a 2x2 wide space and 3 tile higher space to go upstairs... So when it comes to stairs, make very big staircases outside that goes upstairs to a major platform.

Have no ceiling on the stair entrance and exit heading up, because it can block their pathing somehow since they seem to check the 'air' above the stair to see if they can walk up to the other stairs before exiting it.

For instance on the floor right before the staircase, make sure the ceiling is 2 walls high at least, because the pal looks at the space the stair takes up, then looks above it, and looks at their own position before entering the stairs, and looks above it.

I've found building stairs 2 wide and walls 4 tiles high works really well- as someone said, leave the floor over a staircase open.

dont build a ceiling above the floor tiles that are directly in front of the stairs

Don't be afraid to have really tall buildings, like 2 walls high for interior for small and medium pals. For huge pals, you should have 4 walls high though.
Consider 'alpha' and 'shiny' pals to be big pals... A alpha lamball becomes up to twice as tall for instance, so you need to increase the height more.

Also foundations still work to support multiple floors, so long as you have at least 1 tall wall to connect the floors above.

I suggest building foundations all over and then delete the space you don't need, but do want floors or bridges crossing from above. This way the platforms will still attach as it's still the one whole group of foundations connected to the same grid.

Build the stairs and pathways before you build the room basically, you can literally have a stair circle around a big tower from the outside without needing a ceiling.

Pals can and will work through even 3 walls high floors (yea, looks funny). So they don't realy need to go up.

For the second floor you need enough space for your Pals to move. So 2 stairs next to each other followed by at last 1, better 2 free squares of roof. Else the pals can't get around the turns.

Best is to avoid production other then breading on higher floors at the moment :(. Pathing isn't good enough for this atm.

When it comes to 'work' for pals, they have a limited range to access stuff. If something is too far away from their bed then they can't go work there in time.

You can basically separate groups of pals if you don't want them to do things that aren't meant for them, and have separate feeding areas...

For instance group 1 = farming and ranch. You place their beds below so they can access it sooner and spawn them in first.

Then group 2 = production, you place them very high up out of reach of the beds below, and when you spawn them you'd have to forcibly pick them up to carry them up to a inaccessible spot.

Of course when you log off you have to remove all the pals or they risk starving then injury when left in 'afk' mode (when no one is around and they are active in a dedicated server).

Ranch doesn't require active sources of sanity recovery as the only drain is hunger.
- You can feed them cheap food, like eggs produced by the ranch, and put beds in the ranch itself, they will eat and sleep right in the ranch.

Planting/Watering/Harvesting, Mining, Logging drains sanity over time, and needs better food sources and sanity recovery... So you'd need a separate area where they can access hot spring very close to their work area, and a bed in between work area, with a feed box close to the bed that you can put high quality food like Jam filled Buns (it has a timer of 60 minutes, and fills 51 points).

I'm technically on my second iteration of this game. The first one was hosted locally on my husband's computer, but then ran into issues when he wanted to play Eco again.

During the first round I noticed A LOT of issues with Pals not climbing stairs. I tried to make a building for the Pal beds, but many of them wouldn't go in, despite being a smaller size (like Tanzee). Instead they fell asleep at the bottom of the stairs. I didn't play long enough to realize the higher level Pals wouldn't even fit inside.

On the second round, I didn't bother with a building at all. It had me make a bed for the tutorial, so I built a tiny little place to hold the bed and that was it. *EVERYTHING ELSE* is on the ground, and spaced out quite a bit. I got to the point of making the largest Pal beds, and they are all spread out so far, there is enough space between them in all directions to put another bed. But I *STILL* see Pals doing the "back and forth scurry" as though they can't reach a particular bed.

Pathfinding in this game is indeed very horrible. It's one of the biggest fixes I hope they intend to make before it officially comes out of early access.

Make the rooms 3 walls tall and put a roof between each stair fixed the problem for me
