Breeding is broken
Breeding seems to be too random when it comes to passing passive skills. It hardly ever passes the traits from the parents.

I have two pals with one having 3 traits (A, B and trait C). The other having A, B, D and trait X. I want a pal with traits A, B, C and D. instead I am getting random other traits at an extremely high rate. I am getting one or two traits from parents and rest random if any.

Surely it should be the other way around. It should be more likely to pass parents traits than random.

Your chances increase if you have only two passives on each parent. You wanting to inherent all 4 of them onto the next generation. More than that and you see more random traits.

It's not broken, there's a probability table that gets more random the more traits both parents have. There are lots of guides on youtube about breeding. Most efficient way is to have one parent with A B and parent 2 has C D and that's about a 1/5 chance the offspring has ABCD. Having the same AB traits on both parents doesn't decrease chance of passing it on but also doesn't increase it. Offspring always have a chance of random mutation so you'll get random passives not on the parents or only 1 or 2 traits get passed down even if both . The way you have it has a slightly lower outcome but you will eventually get it.

For your sanity I would turn off egg incubation time so you don't have to wait so long to get disappointed.

Thank you both.

That's not very intuitive. Wasted so much time trying to get 1, then 2, then 3 and was stuck on the fourth.

Too late for that. :)

But I have lowered the time and I will lower it even more when I get to bigger eggs. Also decreased breeding time using a mod.

egg incubation time isnt something that matters to me, the issue I have is having to hold the button for every egg... that gets old really fast when you have to hatch hundreds of eggs.
MewTressym 2024 年 2 月 8 日 下午 1:06
I'm using 0.1 hatch time.

0.0 does work for MOST people using it but some people have had issues with egg timers freezing completely, glitching out to absurd timers, or just not hatching at all.

There is a mod for toggling hold vs press for F interaction.

I'd like for there to be a higher tech upgrade for the breeding station. There's an area in the world that has some kind of implication of genetics modding and whatnot, so it would be cool to have a higher tier station that lets us have more control over the traits that offspring inherit (and other things, like maybe making color changes to them or having alpha sizes inherited)

ive tried that, but it just crashed me every time.

Ah, fair, I guess avoid it for now then till a stable version comes out. I'm fine with the incredibly short time of holding F on each egg. At least it's short for me, I imagine the multiple crafting necklaces I'm wearing are helping probably.

This is the same bug that has occurred for anyone changing settings and not fully restarting the game before joining the world. Does not have to do with 0.0 but rather a deeper issue with how the game gets the settings.

Edit: not all changing settings does this and will see the issue. But it CAN happen when you change settings for the world and not restart the game. If you have this issue, fully close the game and re-open and the issue should be fixed.

That makes sense. Thank you for sharing. Def will test this later when I go for my next "perfect" project.

i like the breeding system, i hope they dont make it any easier besides halving the condensing process maybe to get 4 stars. i like to put in a little effort for that perfect breed unlike pokemon where every one and their mother can get their perfect mon in no time

As a comparison to other games with breeding mechanics, Monster Rancher had a system in it where monsters died of old age, and could only breed x amount of times in that time frame. This is way, way, way better then that.

Ark required stacking mutations for perfect stats up to 254 (255 was technically cap but going to 255 caused a server error so people stopped at 254), on top of color mutations, usually taking THOUSANDS upon THOUSANDS of breeding sessions to get a perfect dino.

Pokemon's IV and Personality Trait system even with items to guarantee a specific passdown rate still required breeding well over 500 times to get perfect IV's + personality trait and if you were going for a perfect Shiny it'd be thousands upon thousands of breeds.

Meanwhile in Palworld you can realistically get a perfect Pal from around 200-300 breeding attempts.

In the grand scheme of things this is insanely easy already and if it got dumbed down any further probably wouldn't even be a fun mechanic anymore for number crunchers like me who would knock it out in a day and be twiddling our thumbs.

Honestly, breeding is fine as is. Sure, it might take you 100+ eggs to get your "perfect" Pal, but that just means you already have fodder for the condenser. Or the Pal Vendor. Or the butcher's knife. It's not like there's no value to spare pals, unlike a certain other game with a breeding system.

palworld also has a IV system by the way, so it may be even harder than older gen pokemon games to get a perfect pal ;p
