Problem is that dedicated servers are laggy and pathing is trash in this game, if they fix this and game gets more content, a lot of them will come back.

I think expectations are simply set too high here. Nobody expects a game to maintain its all-time peak.
It's not a finished game, but an early access beta. If it settles at 150 - 300 thousand players over the next 2 years, it has already won.
