nonspoiling food or seeds to block free slots in chests

I noticed when I was making indoor sleeping areas that making your pals enter the area through a door wouldn't work very well. So I removed the door, and I just leave an open wall space in any building I want Pals to enter. No problem.
So that got me thinking... if they don't like to use the door, maybe I can make some storage behind a closed door that stays organized. And it works! For whatever reason, my Pals won't enter the small section of my base behind a stone door. They don't even go in there to light my fireplace unless I open the door myself.
There could be other factors. The room in question is a bit out of the way and at a higher elevation than any other storage I have, so maybe it just doesn't make sense for them to go to it. But I think it's worth trying. I am not using a password on the door.
