How to explore lava zone?

I'm using heat resistant armor but when I approach the lava I catch fire and die within seconds. There's these rock platforms in the lava that are clearly designed for traversal but using those puts you so close to the lava that I always catch fire.
Is this an oversight or am I an idiot smhw?

And there's apparently a pal that negates both the hot and cold environmental effects when you ride it. Don't remember which one though.

Basically: "Lava hot".

I've run into the same thing before, just use a flier.

Pyrin, Arsox and Vanwyrm would work. Basically any fire mount.

i can fly over lava completely fine thou? im playing on single player if that matters.

I think they may mean flying at ground level

You can have heat-resistant refined metal armor and thermal underwear, and be flying the height of the tall central pillars that sometimes have eggs in the center of some of the lava pools (i.e. well off the ground) and still catch on fire almost immediately.

It likely depends on the specific flying mount.

If you have enough stone with you you can build over lava.

what do you mean like where you don't consume stamina? like literally press ctrl until you can't anymore? that's what i'm doing

I was taking a guess at what they meant, but yes. I don't think I've caught on fire in the air before either, but it may just be that I was riding the right kind of mount or whatever. I dunno.

are 3 levels of heat resistance as i understand it, depending on the armor what level of resistance you have. basically you need a higher level of armor to increase your resist level so you can go across the lava. It will also just bug out sometimes and kill you anyway.

I know the problem they're talking about. When I've been exploring the area I've been fine flying over pools of lava and then other times just light up, from what I've witnessed it seems like a height limit. When I'm flown really high above the pools I can avoid getting lit up but otherwise even a solid height up I'll still catch fire. Just a weird thing to notice with the lava.

As far as I know flying pals that walk when landed have the bug where even flying over lava you'll take damage. If you use a flying pal that always flies, even on the ground, you'll be fine going over lava. The exception is the darker, flowing lava, it extends above ground level such that you'll still be touching it even while flying along the ground.

I scouted the volcano while riding a Nitewing, and using Heat Resistant lv 2 armor + Heat Resistant lv 1 shirt.
