Palworld
Food overhaul idea
As you know, redberries are broken and make all other foods pointless since they can be produced early in huge amounts and cooked quickly. You can make a few berry farms and get thousands of them overtime with the right pals to plant and harvest them. My idea is to nerf them by having them fill hunger up less like 2 Hunger points for you (foraging the bushes gets you 2-4 berries) and the pals and giving the pals a “diet” type.

Each Pal is labeled as either Herbivore, Carnivore, or Omnivore. If you give a pal a matching type of food, they get the actual hunger filling and if you give them the wrong one, they fill only a tiny amount. Those with Omnivore can eat either any food as usual. It’s a bit unbelievable and funny how you can give raw meat to a Pal like Lamball to fill the hunger meter and it works.

This will make the game more challenging where meat items are now more valued since you have to deal and kill pals for them.

I don't even understand what you're saying. The same ingredients you use to make cake, are also the same ingredients that you make pizza with. You should already have thousands of spare ingredients lying around if you breed anyway.

let me provide the context again

1. you're about to afk. let me put it this way then: go to sleep irl. and you want the worker pals to afk farm as you sleep.
2. I did mention that if pizzas aren't automated it may as well never existed. because duh, you need to manually put pizza in the oven.
3. if you have 100 pizzas and you intend to afk farm, then why are the workers continuing with their work? the milk/egg/etc will just spoil.
100 pizzas last several weeks, I don't think there will ever be a time you're sleeping irl for several weeks at a time. Yeah, ingredients spoil. That's something you will have to deal with when you're breeding and want to make cake. But also ingredients are produced so quickly it doesn't matter. A single one starred chicken or cow supplies all the milk and eggs I need for cake and pizza. Also fun tip, food that you don't pick up from the kitchen never spoils. So you can queue up the next couple hundred pizza when you take a stack, and it will store there. Just every few weeks you come grab it, queue up another couple hundred, and stash it in the basket. Your pal's work productivity and efficiency will go up to a stellar degree with how less trips they'll be making to the basket. A pizza provides so much satiety, plus the hunger decline rate buff, that a pal only eats one slice like every other day. Cabonara is a great food you can also make with only all these same ingredients that you can use for yourself and party, as it increases defense. For an attack increase you'll unfortunately need meat, but thats something you can just go nab for boss fights or something as you need it.

If you are playing on a multiplayer server, you are better to use food beyond berries to keep their sanity up and reduce the chance of coming back to them being sad, incapacitated, etc.

2. I did mention that if pizzas aren't automated it may as well never existed. because duh, you need to manually put pizza in the oven.

LIke any other production activity, you queue it up and then let your kindling pal cook them, you then later pick them up and place them in the food box.

This really shouldn't be an issue to maintain their efficiency, but that's up to you.

3. if you have 100 pizzas and you intend to afk farm, then why are the workers continuing with their work? the milk/egg/etc will just spoil.

as someone else mentioned, they will farm and harvest and if you have fridges they will put the food there and it will stay good (assuming you have a cooling pal at the base).

stop gate-keeping like you have some kind of authority

Gatekeeping is an essential part of keeping any fandom alive. You'll understand this when you're older and/or your hobby has been ruined by tourists. Just look at comic books. It's a necessary evil.

Gatekeeping a single mechanic for a game that's in early access will certainly keep the tourists off of it. Got it. Thanks for your wisdom.
So what's a good food source to feed your pals that isn't a pain in the a to make/raise?
As you get higher in level, jam on toast just by adding wheat and flour to your farm, eventually you'll upgrade salad which is only lettuce and tomato, and then later on again, pizza, which all costs the same ingredients you're already farming anyway for cake + tomato, so you just add one tomato plantation and you're good. Pizza reduces hunger decline rate and increases work speed and only costs infinitely renewable resources you generate passively in your base, it's great work pal food.

Easy food you can make for your personal use/combat team use is Cabanara, huge satiety and +20% defense buff and costs all the same ingredients you are already farming for cake and pizza. If you want some +attack food, you'll have to go get meat every now and then, but you can basically just only save that/get that before bosses or something.

So you dont want to get increased work speed and reduced sanity from better food?
I think a neat re-do of the food system would be to make your pals get sick or depressed if there is only 1 type of food and on the opposite end get a mood (read work speed) boost if there are 3 or more types of food to eat.

Though they would also have to change how the feeder works.
Berries are okay for smaller Pals, but the larger ones that have larger appetites will not be very efficient eating berries. You're incentivized to upgrade to better food to sustain higher appetite pals without them spending most of their time at the berry basket. Making you craft multiple types of food would be pointless extra busywork.

Besides, there's no passive way to farm meat-based food. You have to go around manually killing stuff that drops meat. Given how few pals that is it would be a pain and a chore to sustain your base with meat-based food. I would rather explore and build than spend half my time running around in circles trampling Lamballs to feed my carnivores.

I've been using fried eggs for now. I've tried jam on toast but they seem to prefer berries over it >_>

They will eat whatever is in the closest box in the first slot first. They don't have preferences.
crappy food makes them eat more and get San faster, look at the food buffs......
