Food overhaul idea
As you know, redberries are broken and make all other foods pointless since they can be produced early in huge amounts and cooked quickly. You can make a few berry farms and get thousands of them overtime with the right pals to plant and harvest them. My idea is to nerf them by having them fill hunger up less like 2 Hunger points for you (foraging the bushes gets you 2-4 berries) and the pals and giving the pals a “diet” type.

Each Pal is labeled as either Herbivore, Carnivore, or Omnivore. If you give a pal a matching type of food, they get the actual hunger filling and if you give them the wrong one, they fill only a tiny amount. Those with Omnivore can eat either any food as usual. It’s a bit unbelievable and funny how you can give raw meat to a Pal like Lamball to fill the hunger meter and it works.

This will make the game more challenging where meat items are now more valued since you have to deal and kill pals for them.

what you are a bum? Well .. dont be sad

Everything needs overhaul .. but as far as food goes, it needs immediate update for the feeding bag, it doesnt work for the pal you are currently using or when using a pal, you dont eat from the bag and still have to manually feed the pal and yourself .. which is kinda annoying

*builds 20 berry fields instead of just 2

I'll welcome this if they add tons of QoL updates to pet management. Between getting stuck and forgetting their tasks, Pals are complicated enough to manage as it.

Berries offer little nutrition and they don't offer any bonus to SAN. Baked berries only offer 1 SAN.

This means that if you're just feeding berries to your pals who are working at your base, they are going to need to stop working more often to run and eat, and are going to need to take breaks more often because they don't get a SAN boost.

You also miss out on things like work speed increase from foods like Chikipi Sautee.

By using more inefficient foods your trading cost (simple to produce berries) for time (takes longer to do things without the buffs from food and needing to take breaks). There's already a trade off to the berries.

If you're trying to carry it around as food for your pals when exploring, you need to carry a lot more (especially for better pals)

You are... kind of bad at this game if you think red berries are broken and make all other food sources irrelevant. Pals only care about hunger when they fall below 50%, and then they only eat until they are above 51%. So Pals with big stomachs will get to 49%, go "oh, I'm hungry" drop what they're doing, stomp across your base, eat the 15 satiety berries until they're at 51% hunger, then stomp back to their job, work for a minute, and fall back down to 49% again and repeat. IT's extremely inefficient. Food liek salad or pizza that also reduces hunger decline rate and increases work speed makes a massive, noticeable difference on how much pal's work. To consider berries OP is like considering the club OP because it only costs wood and you can use it all the way to the end of the game. You sure could, but it's very inefficient and wrong to do it.

Nah. The only thing I cook so far is 1k berries every couple of runs and it's enough for two bases. I don't even have to care about the sanity of the pals on my 2nd base because they are only mining ore and have ample time to slack off between respawns.

The only two things I make are jam filled buns for sanity, and those berries. If you don't really care about optimizing efficiency that's enough, and I guess that's enough for many players and the ease of use doesn't give an incentive to try anything else.

Pals should eat until full, that's one thing, and prioritize high SAN or high nutrition food instead of just eating left to right, that would be a better incentive to begin with. Locked-out food at the cooking pot should have an icon or something when it gives a buff, so people know there's actually something to be gained by building a fridge and assigning an ice pall.

Baked berries are for early game, you won't get much benefit out of them mid and late game. You pals will leaave jobs more often to feed and take longer to feed. They also provide no buffs.
Try making salads! They're easy to make (2 tomatoes, 2 lettuce), can be farmed in base, and add bonus work speed. But yes, it'd be cool to see if each individual food item had its own effect of some sort. Or at least most of em.

Just because you can, and it works, doesn't mean it works well. IT has nothing to do with sanity. IT's efficiency. PAls are working for almost 5x longer if they aren't constantly going abck for food.

The problem is that not any "challenge" is good. Adding pointless micromanagement typically isn't.
fox Feb 7, 2024 @ 6:38am
Implement hard limits for farms, 2 per base. Players will have to choose the best farms for efficiency.

...or else this game will become a "babysitting simulator" rather than a survival game one.

No need to bump.

How about Pal food?
The dishes/meals we can prepare are Human-centric. How about, reducing the Nutrition of Berries and at the same time create Pal specific foods made out of berries and honey and wheat and what not. A Pal Granola bar. So that we don't have to Spam feed berries to the pals that eat a lot.

It's already known: Lettuce & Tomatoes for any type of production base and Berries & Wheat for any type of Breeding base.

Grow the lettuce and tomatoes to make salads to improve work efficiency, berries and wheat for making cakes.

Add in a ranch to make eggs and you can make omlets for attack food while you travel

your suggestions just makes things tedious.
