I agree it would be nice to at the very least have an option to tick a box to say "Pals can/can't place items in here." I have chests sorted specifically and finding a random rock in there is dumb lmao.
If you want privat boxes, you need to place them, where pals cant acess them.
This is annoying though and I wish we could lock a container from pal transporting access.
For food stuff, I think pals prioritize putting them into the food box first and then the fridge next.
So if you make sure the food box slots are full you can get them to store your milk and eggs properly in the fridge.
I put the boxes I don't want them to touch in a room with a door. They won't open the door and route to the other boxes I have placed.
Why are all of our pals so f'ing.... NOOB with organizing???
Now that I notice it's actually driving me bat s**t crazy.......
Rust/Conan/Valheim my storage organization was immaculate.
I think I haven't paid attention to it as much here because you can easily craft from containers, but it's still a problem.
Like why in the HELL did this cute lil floofer just put 10 threads in 20 different boxes...... you dumb #@$#@$@.
Put them all in the same box !!! (lol)
The best workaround I've discovered in the meantime is putting chests in close proximity to work/production stations. If you don't want Pals storing items in a particular chest, then put it somewhere they can't reach.
Personally, I have a centralized storage location where I keep all my processed items. It's separated by two stories and I'm only able to access it by grappling hook.
This has helped me with organizing my base storage enormously along with a few other things. I use pretty much exclusively upgraded storage at this point and only really NEED 3-5 boxes around my main base.
Feed Box - Stack of food that you want your Pals eating, followed by Honey in a regular stack, and a single slot full of honey afterwards. This makes it so that if you notice your Pals eating Honey you know to fill their feeder, and if the stack of honey behind your intended food is big enough you wont suffer too many losses. Honey doesn't spoil so it keeps slots full.
Pals now bring everything aside from Honey to the Cooler/Fridge.
Wood/Stone/Paldium/Fiber all get split into multiple stacks inside a chest nearby the work stations, this minimizes how far my Transport pals have to move stuff, and ensures that those resources will be the only things in that box unless you use them all up.
I keep the majority of farmable items, or stuff that fills up my inventory when I go out inside a chest close enough to the Pal box to make my movement over bearable when over encumbered. Generally this junk chest gets Items like Flame Organs, Pal Fluids, Seeds, Wool, Leather, Ammo, Ect.
Blueprints, Skill Fruit, and other outdated Equipment get up to three boxes in my bedroom simply because they take up so much space as they generally don't stack. Usually these boxes are left unmolested by Pals because they have adequate storage for anything else they're doing elsewhere..
Also I didn't know this until probably 120+ hours but you can tap R to sort anything in your inventory into a box as long as it has a stack of a corresponding item.
I tried to get the boxes right on top of the stations themselves so it kind of looks built in.
Not ideal but it sure beats watching these aholes place all my HQ clothes in 20 different areas with absolutely 0 logic or reason.
