recent news says the game cost $7milion to make and it was directly funded by craftopia sales.
What's actually good is to release in early access because players can experience the game and see it isn't BS like AAA games releasing broken ♥♥♥♥ and covering over NDA. But yeah, releasing mid-year would be better for that title.
They only released a basic version of the game.. Not even half of the game right now.. They still have plenty of content coming later with more building stuff and more parts of the map to be made.
The reason for this is because of the change over from unity too unreal engine.. Either way its fine as I think this is most fun I have had in a while in a game, I am glad they released it early most of the time doing a complete overhaul of a game like that normally ends badly for most developers.. I feel the guy who did the training for them to be able to use unreal engine should get a massive raise.

this is early access.
Man American education is working well I see.
Early Access is a release state, in case you don't know. The word "release" doesn't only refer to the 1.0 version. Games can be released in a lot of versions: pre-alpha, alpha, alpha-test, pre-beta, beta, beta-test, early access, demo, full, prologue, trial, and 1.0
I'm not American, I'm from Brazil, something you also don't know even if it's in my profile, but I bet you didn't even check my profile to know where I am from. I agree with you, American educational system is poor, probably it's running the same way as Ireland's educational system teaching people to assume things without even research about it.
Like actually.
The only GOTY that really matters is your personal one.
A lot of people. Not only what I listed, but there are players who don't have time to research about the game, to watch videos, they don't care about what's going on with the gaming universe, they'll just think "Hey, this game won GOTY of 2024, must be good."
Those are the same people who gives a ♥♥♥♥ about EA releasing copy and paste of the same game (FIFA) for like 6 years in a row, they just want to play soccer game, with Ronaldinho Gaucho and Messi in the most updated version of the real life. The same kind of people who doesn't give a single care about gaming world and just want to play a race game, simulator, something with Ferrari and car company that they like.
Important note: Those type of players that I just described are the ones who most buy games, and most spend money on cosmetics microtransactions, they don't care about your opinion or what the internet have to say about a game, they just want that flaming skin, or ice sword to play their game and have fun.
So... Even if you think people like us (who doesn't give a ♥♥♥♥ about those 30 awards from random websites, 10/10 IGN, and stuff like that) are important, we aren't, so... "Who gives a ♥♥♥♥ about glorified advertisements that are GOTY awards?" A ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ lot of people more important and impactant than us, just that.
I wouldn't worry too much about it, because GOTY is about more than just popularity the closest to award time.
People need time to actually play and experience a game and whether or not they like it enough to nominate it for GOTY.
And even then I wouldn't say the game not getting a GOTY award would be either the death or salvation of this game.
It's still in the top 3 most concurrent players on steam right at this moment, the most steam players ever max, and it's only the early access.
If they manage to release any big updates before the end of the year, which would just be shocking honestly, then they will see another big spike in players, especially if they can fix public servers.
