What's the chance on the devs only doing the bare minimum and then dipping?
The fact that their previous game Craftopia is still in early access with middling reviews doesn't exactly fill me with confidence...

Probably Zero, since Palworld has sold over 12 million copies on Steam and Microsoft is assisting them in scaling up for Xbox servers.

100%.

Nobody will work in a business that does not profit.

If your project made $100 would you still spend another $60 to perfect it? It means your profit dropped from $100 to just $40.

Doesn't Craftopia get update regularly every month? (According to its news section). It's not that they've abandoned it.

Dev is spending about half a million dollars US per month to maintain servers, if I read the report right. That's quite a lot of money to call it "bare minimum".

Early access is always a gamble. If what the game currently offers doesn't seem worth the price then don't buy the game. It's not going anywhere.

I mean…it’s an indie survival game…always like to give them benefit of the doubt but also not holding my breath here.

One thing give these devs tho, that road map? Like ffs, it’s so simple if they can’t deliver on that in due time, well, be pretty obvious what’s really going on right. BUT they’re keeping it simple thus far…hopefully cos they’re being realistic with what actually can do.

The other dev team never dipped on Craftopia and has been doing more than the bare minimum for the years it's been in development, so I'd say pretty damn low.

And given the game has made Pocketpair hundreds of millions in revenue, I would be very surprised, and disappointed, if they didn't capitalise on that by employing more staff and ramping up development. If they play this right, Palworld becomes a staple of the genre. The kind of game they can coast on for decades with secondary/derivative products like merch and branding. The kind of game bigger corps will eventually try to buy out to milk, the way microsoft did with Minecraft.

You don't "do the bare minimum and dip" when you own a gold mine. You start digging.

Craftopia was literally updated several times on launch week of Palworld >_>

Well, that’s just about 100% more effort most indie devs(and I don’t care if theyre diff teams, payroll all coming from same place for both) give to their less popular attempts at making it big, so…good on em’ hopefully keep that mentality moving forwards.

Straight up there's so many extra sources of revenue they can do toy's, plushies, Legos & so on if they play their cards right they can make Palworld a giant.

Yep. You don't shrug and walk away when you have the opportunity to be the next pokemon-style success. Whether they'll achieve it or not is anyone's guess - but even modest success will see them make a ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ of money compared to just leaving the game to die in early access.

There's no way in hell they're blind to that fact.
