Feed bag never feeds my pals
I have 3 feed bags now but my pals and myself NEVER eat from the feed bags. I always have to manually do it, I've tried every food available to me and not a single pal eats from them. I can be mounted, walking, fighting, and even chilling at the base, never happens. I can't tell you how many times I have starved down to 1 HP and my pals starving assuming the auto feeding should work. I've basically decided it'll never auto feed and just do it myself cause I know if they need fed.

Is there a hidden setting that disables this or is it just always gonna be bugged?

you did put the food in the NEW slot that opens up on your char (not your normal inventory)
The slots under your char equipment panel
Mounted will never eat, tho, you have to unmount first

I understand that everyone likes to share about the mounting thing and I already know this. I've put my food in the new slots I always have food in them, dismounting does nothing and recalling the pals does nothing to feed them either ... trust me I have spent plenty of hours of getting the same answers that don't work cause I've already done them several times.

(Not directed at only you)
Everyone is talking about the mounts which is not the problem, it's literally every other scenario. Because like I said, I can be doing anything, fighting, walking, standing, etc. my pals of every kind including myself refuse to eat from the feeding bags which I have food in them 24/7.

Believe me when I say that I have tried all the basic answers, I wouldn't be here if it was a simple solution

It does work, ridden pals do not eat though.

The prompt will appear in the bottom left, and will be like it ate (blah blah)

They probably don't eat constantly, just when they actually get low.

I actually looked into that, that isn't your pals in the party, those are all the pals working at bases, I tested it out and had all of the same pals in my party and none of the same kind of pal at the bases and mine never popped up once

The feedbag should auto feed you and the pals in your party.
The ones at your base have there own feeder.

Sounds like you have a bug, cause your using the right slots but they are not eating.
What food do you have in the slots? I found 1 or 2 food items that give more then 100% fullness which for some reason they will not eat automatically.

But berrys, beard etc works fine (eggs, milk, wheat does not)

I currently have about 80 jam filled buns and almost 400 cooked berries in the slots, sometimes I put marinated mushrooms in the 3rd food slot I have, any new food I put in a slot to see if it works but it does not

I specifically put the jam filled buns in the first slot cause it is one of few that has an hour decay and after mining several node location I still had the same amount of food almost decaying

There is a bug with it - It does not feed your mount.

That's not a bug , if your are riding the mount it can't eat.

not a fix for your bug, but you can keep all your food from decaying (reset the timers) by just hitting the inventory sort button. even if its already sorted.

Cool method, tho I just use chests to do the same thing, would hate to sort my inventory of my own personal organizing lol

Uh, if the food provides a buff, you or a pal will not eat it again via the feed bag until it runs out. Sometimes this means staving your pal or yourself to death, if you're taking lots of damage or using skills like mad.

Since I discovered this, I just put cooked berries in my first food bag slot, bread from chests in slot 2, and am content with that. They regen lots of sanity, and if I hop off my mount every several minutes, everyone is fed well enough. Too many weird quirks that I've bump into from trying to be more efficient, that I've gotten to where I'd rather avoid complications by just keeping things simple.

The feeding system has all sorts of issues.

1. Won't feed the one you fly on, so they starve unless fed by hand.
2. Only feeds from the first slot when more slots have food, so the rest of your slots happily expire while getting 0 benefit. The logic should feed the lowest timer first.
3. They start feeding way too late. None of them feed unless you are way below half hunger, even though you could easily consume dozens of food without getting full. This means that when you run out of food mid combat, your entire party could be near starving. They should eat when the food does not fill them up to keep them near full.
4. The nutrition of food is ignored. They eat the first slot, even if it is 5x their total hunger bar.

nope, just riding. if you get off the mount they immediately start eating.

I wouldn't call this a bug. How can it eat if it's flying or carrying you?
You can manually feed it while flying on it, so your logic is inconsistent. That's like saying "how do I teleport food in my mouth" with an auto feed bag.

Can confirm, pals being ridden don't auto eat. Which is annoying when fighting bosses as for some reason my high level mount Pals' fullness has been dropping really fast for a while.

I ate through 250 berries fighting 1 boss fight. When fighting the desert bosses, my girlfriend had to bring me stacks of food twice as I almost died of hunger too. The rate at which they eat in combat is ridiculously unreal. It should be toned down. I changed drain to half in world settings to make it at least a little manageable.

Tried that before, had only cooked berries and bread for a long while and didn't work

I have the same issue as OP The feedbag does not feed characters or pals. I suspect this bug happened because I crafted the average feed bag and equipped it before crafting the small feed bag. If I could delete both food bags from the key item I suspect it would resolve the issue.

Or you could eat something with more than 21 nutrition. Big Pals have big bars to fill, and if they're using high value moves they take up a ton of energy. Berries are fine for working around the ranch where they can gnosh anytime they need to, but for fighting and exploring something more substantial is needed. I use Jam Filled buns which have double the nutrition and a stack of 40-60 will last me a couple ingame days, depending on how strenuous we're working.
