Is internet required?
Can I play this alone, or is it like an MMO? I want to make sure I can play this offline because I don't trust that Nintendo won't murder this game. Trying to decide if I want to buy it.

You can play alone.

Nintendo has no case otherwise the game wouldn't have seen the light of day.

For multiplayer it's required, solo game not.

Internet is not required to play singleplayer.

If you're on steam you can probably play offline but on Xbox you need a constant internet connection to play the game even in single player mode

Oh that's awful for Xbox players! I hope Pocket Pair irons that out

I'm glad you can play offline. Game preservation is important.

Bit of a necro but yeah it's nice.

There are some games lost for good, without resale especially closed mmorpgs that never shared servers or got lost for good. Corporations still like to never release just in case of a 20% chance of "what if". But some games are lost for good if purely online or licensing agreement.

Even big ip nintendo, with easily preservable titles. Has rumoredly apparently been time to time accused of flat out selling unaltered roms of their own ips, grabbed from the pirate sites in a weird "stolen by the original owner" kinda legal shenanigan. With crap like. "Purchase the official nintendo rom from the official source! Avoid sketchy pirates"

While having the "official non sketchy pirate rom", literally having stuff like.

Readme.txt "This rom was cracked by XPirateFnintendo420X For Nintendo roms."
- Nintendo store: 59.99$.

But stuff like apparently phantasy star or something, or some experimental gamecube mmos. Or things like Fusionfall(?), games that i had no computer to play as a kid, but heard people playing were lost as even companies lost interest, paused projects, or stopped hosting them.
