the "F" key is used for so much it seems overburdened to me.
if there is an object or something else that you can interact with using the F key while you are trying to use the F key for something else, like mounting, dismounting, etc. the F key will chose one over the other. This happens a lot. an awful lot.
You have to Press & Hold the F key to perform certain actions, and there is a tendency to Tap the F key, (at least I have a tendency to tap it) which of course results in the F key not working, and me having to press it over and over again until I remember that I need to Press & Hold.
The F key is overburdened IMHO
If you're already holding the key and it's not working, there may be something wrong with your keyboard or drivers. For example when I had the Japanese IME active, certain games detected some kind of special modifier key being pressed all of the time and it interfered with all other input, so I had to disable the IME completely for those games.
There are occasional bugs with mounting getting stuck if you were near an item that you could pick up. Look around for a [F] Pick Up prompt somewhere on your screen and go pick that item up and hopefully it'll fix your mount.
