Additionally, Im having a LOT of trouble with pals getting stuck during transport. It seems to have started with this last update
- They need to not be sick, hungry, injured, or low SAN
- If they take a break to eat or relax, that leaves the station open for another pal to take over, thus removing the original from the assignment.
Ways to minimize this issue
- As open concept of a base as is possible. Keep stations outside and away from each other. This ensures they have access, don't get assigned to the wrong station, and don't get stuck as often.
- Upgrade their beds to ones that provide more SAN. This helps keep them healthy.
- Upgrade their food (salad is best cost to benefit ratio) so that it provides more nourishment and SAN, so they don't have to break to eat as often or get sick as often.
Doing these things greatly improved Pal Assignment behavior.
As for pals sticking to a job, a lot of that has to do with SAN, Hunger, and Illness. Combat that with higher quality beds and food.
Yeah try to avoid putting anything inside your house your Pals need access to.
Build a house where you keep your materials with value etc. and a few things like egg breeding or that statue where you upgrade. Make sure you give everything some space. Avoid putting work benches against walls.
Lets hope they improve pathfinding and such in the near future. Pals really have alot of trouble with height and verticality, be it combat or homebase.
Personally, I would prefer to be able to assign pals from a list in a crafting station UI.
Exactly this. First base, hardly anyone was using my baths and everyone was losing SAN. I made the entrance to the bath house 2-tiles tall in the second base and the baths are being used smoothly.
I gotta say I'd love that aswell, that and no freakin' weight limit unless I leave my base area !
So when auto it works, even if cannot assign
Adding direct pathing and building will allow pals access aka straightforward
Mine have zero issues after I ensured stairs and entrances were direct and not Freeformed
What I meant by Anubis is find pals with limited work traits so they can focus purely on the tasks at hand instead of many or in the case of getting stuck back to auto or because of too many tasks switching inconsistently
