Why wont my Pals stay in the breeding pen ?
I put Cakes in the pen box, I put in 2 pals , they will either not assign, or if they do , they start the process and then within 10 mins they leave the pen and I cannot get them to re-assign to it ,I have moved the pen to different areas without success

this is game breaking for me at the moment and I have around 50 hours in

The breeding pen does feel broken. A lot. Sometimes I'll have Pals stay put, and sometimes one or both will leave and not be able to be re-assigned. There's a few work arounds, such as destroying the Pen and rebuilding it in a different location. Another player found that taking those Pals from the base, moving them to your party, making sure they'll full of food, then back to the base and assigned to the Pen. I've had that method work a few times, but not every time.

Overall it's just inconsistent. Rebuilding hasn't failed me yet, but sooner or later at least one of the Pals just runs off and refuses to be assigned. I wonder if it work if it was built on top of a foundation or something and kept somewhere well away from any other possible work spots.

This can happen if there are other jobs that the breeding pals might get assigned to, or an unrelated pal gets stuck somewhere and unable to do it's job. Set up a base on a beach with no resources and put the breeding pens there. Also, don't visit at night because when they spawn in a sleeping state, it can also unassign.

Minutes? More like seconds; the first will usually start wandering off right after it's dropped, before I've even grabbed the second one.

Tried deleting the pen, rebuilding it in a different part of the base; same. Delete pen again, place stone foundations all over, build pen on top of foundation, same. It's really specific to the breeding pen, too, as if it somehow has the lowest of all priorities even when you toss 'em directly into the hay.

Feels like it'd only be reliable if I built another base with usually no other work for them, like it's got nothing but beds, a feeding point, the breeding pen, and maybe one farm since farms don't provide work while there's stuff just growing.

Because your Pokemon know they are cloned from Nintendo and want out of their cage.

We had this issue too...We decided to build our 3rd base for breeding only. No resource in the base to gather, nothing else to do for the Pals so they don't spread out from breeding. It worked well. We have some bugs sometime but not as many. You need space around the pen so they don't get stuck and you don't want the pen to touch the blue circle around your base.

Thanks for the feedback, I will try making a base that is only for the breeding pen until a fix is put in place by the devs

Put a feeder inside the breeding pen, most likely they wander out for food and it breaks the ai link.

There are 5 things that can cause a pal to abandon or refuse a job

- Got stuck
- Hungry
- Sick
- Injured
- Low SAN

Most of this can be mitigated by improving base layout (such as beds and food containers INSIDE the breeding pen), improving beds, and improving food.

Food that gives more nourishment and SAN will help keep them healthy and require fewer breaks to eat and relax. I use Salad because it gives 4 times more nourishment than cooked berries, 11 times more SAN, and a work buff. My base layout is VERY open concept so there is little to get stuck on. As a result, my Pals stick to their jobs very well and almost never get sick.
I found an easy sollution for those who really want to breed.

Make a palbase where there's only the breeding farm and some basic stuff (palbeds, food basket, a chest, etc.) and add the pals that you want doing other stuff. Then you can simply assign the pals you wish for breeding, make sure they're male and female AND that there's no other important task to do besides the breeding (don't bake food when you breed kindling OR put another kindling in the base).

I've put the 2nd palbase close to our main base so we can make all the needed stuff at main, including cake, and then we can simply walk over and breed 👍
