Base Building: Upgrade from Wood to Stone
Hey Fellas,

so yeah here i am having a hard time upgrading my wood base to stone because sadly, at least as far as i know, you can't upgrade exisiting wood building blocks to stone, like in conan exiles for example, you can just "build over it".

even more annoying is that even when i delete the wood piece to replace it with stone, there are often times where i have to delete surrounding blocks, because otherwise it won't work.

Is there a workaround, am i just blind and have missed something?

There is no workaround and I highly recommend that you upgrade your base or even move it near ore/coal while you're at it. Your base will burn if you don't.

Ya, it seems hokey, but once you realize you get 100% or close to 100% of the mats back, it is no big deal to demolish and rebuild it. Have your pals help you rebuild :steamhappy:

How do you move a base seen this said a few time.
Also as OP said that would be a great idea to upgrade without havng to break and rebuild.

It would definitely be nice if there was an upgrade mechanic. Particularly for the defense walls.

Disassemble your palbox and move it to another place.

You pretty much need another base slot to move everything comfortably. If you don't got one then you need to abandon all your wood and stone and everything even a bit more unnecessary.

I'd plan to build the first base in wood. Build in a spot where you can tame lots of pals and level up your character and your base. When you level the base, you unlock the ability to place two pal boxes.

At this point, find a good place with stone and ore. Alternately, just ore, and place a 2nd pal box there. Put a storage box next to it. Now dissemble your first base and place all the mats in the 2nd bases storage box. You can then build your 2nd base. If you have no stone, you can place one or two stone pits for your mining pals to harvest stone from.

Another good technique is to just build your first base where a good 2nd base would go and skip the first wood base. Just build a 2 x 2 temporary wood hut with plans to demolish it later once stone is unlocked.

yesterday night (irl) my complete base including all the chests, burnt down in a matter of seconds because i had a raid which included a Tocotoco, those birds which like to beep beep beep beep and then explode on you causing fire damage to their surroundings. he hit my main chestroom on the outside wall.

even trying to extinguish the fire with water spraying pal didnt work out, because it spread way too fast.

luckily i could restore an old save
(go to ../user/username/AppData/Local/Pal/Saved/... and you will find plenty of backup saves)
and get my ~30h playtime worth of resources back.

i was so pissed because i had finally walled of my complete plot, but of all things, of course one of the main gates didn't finish building, so they came through there.

for now i even turned of raids alltogether
(when you start your game, click "world options", scroll all the way down, to turn off raids)
but once i have finished upgrading everything to stone, i will turn it back on, because the raids have always been fun.

for my taste not even challenging enough, but yeah if one little pal can smoke up all your precious itamz, i say no ^^

Skill issue; shouldve never built it with wood when stone is so cheap

?! you dont get stone until level 18, so you HAVE to build with wood at first.
nothing to do with skill, mate

Well sort of. You can just place all your benches on the ground and build just a 2 x 2 hut with a bed and nothing else. Reserve a space for the stone base and build it when stone unlocks. Best is to just treat the wood base as a temporary structure that will soon be replaced with the actual stone base when it is unlocked.

Technically you don't have to build a base at all; you can build a house without putting down a palbox, and anything inside won't decay. And since there's no palbox, there won't be any raids.

Ah, pretty sure that isn't true. Anything outside the blue circle around the pal box will decay in a day or two. Which is nice, since any traps people make will be destroyed automatically.

Unless of course the server host turned off structure decay. A lot do.
