Option to only give Pal XP to battling Pals
This was always something that really annoyed me in the newer pokemon games: a mon can sit in your bag and do literally nothing yet become just as powerful as your frontline mons that actually battle.

Having XP only go to your actively battling pal encourages you to use them all and to become familiar and attached to them, instead of just sitting in the bag and on rare occasions coming out to fight a particular element enemy.

Some people will find this annoying and tedious I'm sure, so I think there should be a slider in the option menu for "active pal battle XP" and "inactive pal battle XP". With this, people could even choose to give, for example, 10% xp to inactive pals and 150% to active pals, giving a lot of flexibility in how people create their teams.

I think this change will make the game much more engaging and much more endearing to the pals, making consequences like illness and butchering etc much more engaging.

hmm good suggestion op, i actually like the idea as currently i only use 1 pal *not a very good* mainly due to my connection to her being my main (an alpha vixy) and i dont use any others
I feel the same, I mainly use Chilled. I think Chilled is cute and was a surface boss.

Why do you want it though? I don't understand. To extend playtime? Do you like doing the same thing over and over again, as in levelling each and every pal on the same low level targets?
If I don't like how long it's taking I would set "active pal battle xp" to 5x or 10x or 20x and breeze through the levels. This is not hard to understand.
What is hard to understand why do you want it. It is not X-com, it is not Mount&Blade, it is not Wartales even. Character progression is as basic as it comes.

Now you think that you want to level up each of 20+ pals (5 active + 15 base not counting guaranteed swaps through the game), but I can assure you that you would quickly change your mind.
Also, it would be nice if they added a option for Pals in your box to some xp.

I've already explained why I want it and why it's fun 5 times so I'm going to try a different approach:

It doesn't matter if YOU don't understand why someone ELSE wants it. YOUR idea of fun is not going to be the same as someone ELSE's idea of fun, and that's why we have OPTIONS and SLIDERS to make it more fun for more people than just YOU. The world does not revolve around you. The world does not think like you. The world does not have fun like you. YOUR opinion, on its own, doesn't matter. What matters is what OTHER people find fun, and if enough of these OTHER people find it fun the developer can add options to make the game more fun for those OTHER people.

I had fun training my individual pokemon back in gens 1-4, I would get many of them up to level 100 so I could create different teams to fight in PVP. That was fun to me, and if you think leveling up pals is a grind, you don't know what a grind is.

I mean having more setting options are always nice but I would hate it as a default

Not default is fine with me, I just want the option.
