Why are you trying to force them to sleep inside? Are you saying they're not good enough to sleep outside in their natural habitat?

It might be the way you built your base. I have a multi-story tower and all my pals sleep inside of it except for the 3 I keep outside on purpose.

I just built em a 3 sided room. Left an opening so they don't seem cramped

Make sure the entrance is big enough.

some pals are a bit too big for 1 story buildings (plus most cant enter through doors so keep them open for small pals) gotta keep a large opening usually 2 by 2 is a big enough opening for most. plus due to the path finding atm (getting fixed) if your base design is a little complex if they cant find their way there in time they will pass out where they are standing but still get the benefits as if they were sleeping on the bed.

Is your character suffering from excessive gas?
That could be the reason your pals need to be in a wide open area.
