I have the highest level cold gear but I still can't explore the mountains without freezing to death. Am I missing something? I really don't wanna have to keep carrying around a torch everywhere.

you also need thermal underwear, or hold a torch in your hand

Thermal underwear (cold), riding a fire pal and refined metal armor against cold helps. There is also thermal underwear against heat.

If all else fails, catch a Kitsun on Frostbound Mountains at night. It has a passive that makes you immune to both cold and hot environments.

Metal cold resistant armor is all you need.

No you do not. I never carry a torch nor use the underwear.

If you want to freeze death, yeah. Nightly temperatures on the Astral or Frostbound Mountains need more than the mundane metal armor against cold to survive.

I explored it in cold resistent tier 2 armor. It's just i had to leave before night.

If you have foxparts, you can just use his partner skill, and just carry the bugger with you. He'll keep you warm.

Mountains inflict you with Cold 2, you can see it on the temp reader.

Armor gives you Cold Protection 2.

Night cranks it up by +1 to Cold 3. Again, you can visually see this on the temp reader.

You NEED the underwear to survive unless you're riding a Pal or holding a torch (torch is +1).
