A Lot of way to upgrade a per over just catching one.
What others wrote. And also the shinyness might be a factor, they are generally more powerful (like Alpha) variants of the normal Pals, so higher stats are to be expected.
So it can be anything from people above me posting (level, stat boost, statue upgrade, breeding, etc) as well as the whole "being a shiny Alpha" Pal.
Your damage is the sum of all your pals + your attack subtracted from their defense iirc.
Its possible your friend has a lucky (+15% attack) direhowl with +50% attack (all three attack traits) and 4 cremis for their stacking normal damage increase.
Or they could be cheating.
