The Big Tree gets its barrier removed. But there is a second barrier behind the first one. The while Giant Tree zone isn't ready yet st this time. Maybe later on in the EA or full release.

ah ok i did try to go to the tree again, noticed its red barrier was gone, but still has a invisible wall.

so no new npcs pop up? nothin i need to do as a player? jus chill wit my pals for now?

Another way to enjoy the game is going all out in base building. Frostbound Mountains has a nice view for one.
