Why wont my pals f mine the ore???????

I plant my base in the middle of like 6 ore rocks and even tho I throw them at it and it says "fixed assignment to copper ore" they refuse to mine it and just wander around. No affects or diseases on them.

Do they have at least mining level 2?

If they have choice they always mine in stone building. Remove building and they start mining ore.

copper ore requires mining lvl 2, coal requires 3
you can get lvl 2 and 3 dumuds and digtoises easily by going to the northwestern starter isles and going south to the mainland into the desert with the anubis boss

its exactly what i do , and it working very good

take note that digtoises did have a bug where mining was really low unless you were watching them.
