I think what OP is talking about is how Pals can only pick up one item off the ground before depositing it somewhere else. They can take multiple items from chests and logging/mining sites, but if it's an item from a ranch or a felled tree or a small rock on the ground (just any items that spawn in the open world) then they can only pick up one at a time.
This is super easy to avoid you just have the saddle bags set that they can only take what the player puts into them just like many other games
Have a Vanwyrm or some other Fire type hit some trees with ignis breath when it's attacking a Mon while you are not mounted on it.
Later on when you summon that mon it will drop all the wood it should have obtained underneath it, meaning the game is storing that information somewhere.
I've had it happen with my Daedream too, though I have no idea how it ended up with 2000lbs of wood on it since it's main attack is ass. My best guess is it picked up Vanwyrms mess at some point.
