what is the point of construction ?
I mean... i put a bed under a roof and ... that is it. Ok I could also build a wall around my base and some look out towers. but to be honest I do not see the point in this game of the base building. None of the upgrade requires a floor or a roof beside the bed.

Is then the construction just a pure cosmetic "let's have fun" to build ?

Let me introduce you to the concept of the "2nd floor" and the extra space it provides.

it can be nice for organization and aesthetic but as it is right now its just a way to bug out the pal AI and get them stuck all the time so it's kinda just a hinderance atm

To be honest taking this to a logical extreme would make it just silly. So its just simplier to say if you don't see as building as a thing you wanna do then don't spend tech points on it lol.
(logical extreme is 'why build a base in minecraft, nothing really needs to be indoors)
Main benefits is the temperature control, and to many people its always nice to add some amount of their own handiwork to the world in the form of their construction. Nothing says 'I've made this part of the world my home' then a house, hm?

There are multiple reasons, including but not limited to: heat/cold protection, yes the ability to set and use a bed, but also there's protection from raids. And I don't mean from other players; the game will periodically spawn random "encounters" or raids and you can build your base to protect yourself accordingly.

What do u mean "to protect" ?
Raids are coming into your base anyway do you have house or not

My stone walls and doors pretty much keep the worst of the game from raids out.

Steal walls and doors would be even better when I can upgrade.

there are defensive walls you can build around your base, or at least whatever side the raids come from

Until Pal pathing is fixed, there isn't really a point aside from multiplayer being able to lock doors and chests and having a bed with a roof. Pals get stuck inside the floors, walls, roof, stairs etc. Not to mention if a station is too close to another station, pals won't register it and can't work it. That and they don't go indoors unless they're the smallest pal type and even then, it causes pathing issues.

Build a giant multi-story warehouse large enough for pals to travel in. Congrats, you've circumvented the base circumference limit. Congrats, you have done the base building..

yep and then your buildings get damaged in the attack, you don't need walls but they are not pointless

Construction is beauty of it's own. Don't rush the game. Settle down, build a very good looking house is part of the game's value.

What this person said. Avoid the headache for now and build as little as possible outside of the stations and whatnot.
Pal pathing is an issue that can seriously mess up the flow of your base if they keep getting stuck and starving. So keep it as simple as possible for now.
I've seen some people making big cube structures (4 or more walls high) which might work. And then you can hopefully make a set of stairs going up the side to put stuff on top of it.
