I've found that Tombats are great miners at ore node locations. They're Mining 2 which means they'll actually attack the ore nodes. They do single-hit damage, so their attacks are only reduced by the ore node's armor once per attack. They work through the night. AND once all the nodes are destroyed, they'll help with transport.
All you'll have to do is slot the ore into furnaces. Foxsparks and Roobys are fine, but I managed to get some Arsox and Incinerams which made the whole process much quicker. There's a good ore spot North of the Chillet Boss across a rope bridge near the starter spawn. I tried to make another one on top of a mountain cliff, but every once in awhile when I'd come back, there'd be one or two pals which spawned off the side of the cliff and died. YMMV
Tombats work well in base as they can mine and carry (all night too). they attack slower but hit for 25-30ish points of damage each time, and they seem to use less food per chunk than the Dig. They are a rank 2 miner though and the Digtoise is a rank 3 .. i think that means they will have a hard time with coal+.
there are several great/good base locations with several iron nodes close together and on flat ground. *
63,-413 (Desolate Church) Iron nodes with a teleport near by.
15,-525 iron and a view.
315,-35 good iron with coal near by. *nearly raid proof
189,-39 coal+iron together *nearly raid proof
Place a Pal box near them in such a way that the nodes are within the blue base circle. build a storage, beds and a feed trough. add miners and transporters and your about done. ** you can add in a berry plantation and a Pal or 2 to maintain it Or you can make food elsewhere and keep the trough full. Baked Berries are quick and easy and provide a little San, but also far from the best.
and thats about it for a mining base.
My gameworld is a self hosted Multiplay singleplay game so even remote bases seem to keep working while im not there though there are still transport issues from time to time.
***If you decide to go the manual farm route, find 4 Broncherry. each one on your team increases your weight cap by 100 after you craft the saddle, and the 5 spot on your party is the Miner. The broncherry do not have to be active to gain the increased weight cap, merely on the roster.
Just level up a digtoise (breed one with attack bonus but it's honextly not necessary).
It's not much much faster than you doing it, but it is.
Like, I've built a wooden box and a repair station at the dilapitated (or was it decrepit) church, within grapple range of the fast-travel point. Behind the church, there are consistent spawns for eight ore nodes. I mine the ore and as capacity hits the limit, I schlep it back to the box. As needed, I repair the pickaxe (bringing some stone and ingots from my base; there's wood nearby, in case I forget to have enough, but stone requires a bit of foraging).
(Building a palbox there would let Pals do more of the work, but... it's not great terrain to set up e.g. a full production facility etc. due to limited space, so you'd probably end up needing to take the ore/ingots somewhere else, anyway I'd guess?)
When all 320 units are in the box, I grab the ore. I can no longer even walk, but I can still grapple the ground near enough the fast-travel statue. Fast-travel back to base, grapple the ground nearby a box, drop off the ore; then it's off to the forge, if it's not already busy, to queue up another order of ingots.
it does in SP aslong as you don't build ontop of it
I specificly said Im playing mp lmao
