Lovander's design is inappropriate and sets a bad example for gamers. Lovander's lore doesn't make sense. Lovander needs to be removed from the game! Anyone else agree?

That is not the dunk you think it is. In Japanese games, the origin of "Body Type 1" and "Type 2" is not due to "DEI" and "ESG" - that is conspiracy-theory garbage made up by Westerners. Ease of localization and letting regional distributors take care of it, if its necessary, that is very much a thing.

The end result is that the literal modern audience isn't really fed up with it at all, they aren't thinking for themselves and they never really have. Even with the people who say they're fed up with it, many of them are just echoing other people. Here's a scenario:

You're watching a cartoon and see a racy race joke.
If you were watching it alone, you may or may not laugh based on your beliefs at the time.
If you were watching it with friends or a crowd, your laugh is influenced by who you're with.
If you were watching it publicly or as a streamer, your laugh is influenced by how much backlash you think you're going to get by doing one or the other.

See a pattern? Basically, even if you find it funny, you can probably be convinced that it's not funny (and vice versa). When this chilling effect reaches popular people, that effect also gets passed back down after they either make the "wrong move" or take extra time justifying their opinion, and this creates the modern audience.

At the end of the day, the problem isn't whether you laugh, it's how much pressure you were under for having an opinion. People aren't any more accepting of conflicting opinions than they were 100 or 200 years ago, they just carry out their anger differently. We're not at the level where we carry out that anger in the form of debate, though. We still use punishments. Attacks, demonizations, cancellations...

...all the way down to petitions about pink salamanders in video games.
