Assigning Pals
Love the game in almost every way, except for assigning work to pals. I'm fine with the whole picking them up and throwing them at the job, except it doesn't work 95% of the time. It either does not think there is a nearby job, or it assigns it to the wrong one. Sometimes you can throw them 50 different ways at 50 different angles and it will still not work.

I've had some luck with rebooting the dedicated server, but it's hit or miss if that helps. For most jobs it's not a big deal, they will get around to it eventually. However, for breeding it's critical that the assignment feature works.

Any idea when this might get patched? It's a pretty big aspect of the game to be broken.

Pals have certain jobs that can do. Make sure you are using the right pal for the right job.

EVERY pal can breed. That's clearly not the issue. And I'm fully aware of what jobs they can do based on their skills.

Even with it being the right pal, you're still told "no suitable assignment" or they work on it for a small bit, then go do something else.. like, pick up random pieces of wood and drop it in the same spot, then pick it up again for half an hour, despite having an empty chest available.

Good for you. You should also be fully aware this game is an early access title, bugs and glitches are to be expected.

The condescending attitude is just dripping from you. Lets be civil.

I'm fully aware of what all Early Access means. I've been playing early access games for 12 years. I'm also aware that the shape of an early access game can be shaped by the community via such comments. One of the reasons to launch a game in early access is to get that player feedback in order to refine the game into what the players want. This could be anything from squashing bugs, to balance, and even additional features.

So my post was to serve two purposes:
1) To ensure the devs were aware of the issue
2) To see if any players out there found a workaround

Well considering majority of the game consists of assigning Pals to different jobs, it's kind of important that that part of the game actually works properly.

This happens to us all the time. Even when we just constantly keep throwing them at the breeding pen, they just run off to do something else, or breed for a bit, then leave.

So far, my boyfriend has found that moving them to a different base that has absolutely nothing else for them to do, tends to help.

If they have low san they can refuse to do stuff you tell them to like breed. I've had them not able to find suitable work including breeding when their San is less than 75% but when its above that I've never have the issue. So it is hard to tell if its a bug or a part of how the San stat works

I've not taken San into consideration. I don't recall it being low, but I'll make a concerted effort to pay attention to that next time they wont accept a job. Thanks for the heads up.

Kinda came here expecting people to be intelligent and give legible replies, but it seems even the folks here like every other thread are either braindead or cannot properly read before commenting anything. The game has missing features that truly do need to be implemented and that's mostly with bugs and fixing the pals so that they can be assigned properly and stay there.

From further testing, I've found that so long as the SAN is high, they are not sick, not hungry, and not injured, they generally do what you tell them to. It's not universally true and they do still abandon a job now and then.

A workaround I've found for when they will simply not accept a job even though none of the above mentioned issues are present, is to recall them to your box, place them in another base, then bring them back. That seems to reset whatever AI bug is preventing them from doing a job.

I kinda understood how the mechanic works about assignments, this problems happened to me and all of us all the time and I've found how to work around this. First of all is spacing, you have to have space between small work stations so you don't hit something else since the throwing area is different from the building area, you may not overlap to build but the throwing maybe will.

Second are the large stations like assemble, ranch and breeding. You have 2 problems with it. First the area to assign is all around but works better if you give some space between you and the facility and throw it at front/entrance, don't need to throw inside. And second if you cut down threes and stones and build anything on top, it will prevent them to respawn but if you build a breeding for exemple, it will prevent the respawn but their spawn area will still be there as a ghost and if the pal can mine or log it will assign on these jobs instead of breeding, same to ranch or anything else, so avoid building them on top of this and obvious far from them.

I love to lift them up but I preffer to enter in some sort of configuration menu on every work station and assing them from there.

Also another annoying thing even if you assing a pal and it leave to eat, if another pal can do his job they will take over their place and the assigned pal will be idle or do something else.

I fixed this by making a base in a very wide field, with very few resources to go out and farm. Seemed to do the trick. Trying to breed Anubis and he just kept leaving the pen to farm ore. Sometimes you just gotta set up a base for very specific things, and cut down on the Pals with multiple jobs. You can most times find a pal with a high level skill without much else if anything. Such as Suzaku who is a level 3 Kindling, but nothing else. Perfect for furnaces.

I do hope they let us have a slot to assign Pals, and even for items so you can sort items properly. If you have a feed box they'll put ALL food in it instead of the Fridge. Granted it doesn't go bad if it's constantly stocked, but also makes the Fridge kinda moot.

I'm really hoping they add a ranch for meat/leather that doesn't kill your Pals. I'd love to have a ranch/farm where you can toss in Mozzarina and get their meat, as well as Leather. Otherwise farming food becomes a bit tedious and not worth it at all.
