pal working is awful
dont get me wrong , i love this game, im enjoying it a lot more than i thought , but my base looks like a ♥♥♥♥ show with all those pal running around doing whatever they want , lifting a pal to make it work on something last for at max 3 seconds then they wander off doing anything else, there has to be either something im doing wrong , or a better way to execute this

like i dont know , have a small buidling menu where you choose wich pal works there ? directly and your base level bring up the total number you are allowed to have

You really need to use specialized pals, ones with multi purpose job skills are all scatterbrained

this. multi-taskers are fine early on, but once you get established, you really want pals who focus on one or two things only. its much more efficent that way as those pals tend to have higher skill in those tasks.

AS for me. I been living out in the open. Chicken running all around the place seem normal to me.

I have a bigger problem when every time I log in to my buddy's dedicated server all my pals are unconscious, starving, and injured. When I sit around the base everything is fine.

They also REFUSE to walk up the staircase to get to their beds and half of my Pals get stuck on/under terrain so I have to manually reset them. They will start a job, get stuck, then starve to death when I'm not in base. It's definitely jank and not as intended, but I still enjoy it.

I'm doing that on purpose though.
Less forced slavery and more optional work for intelligent creatures to decide to pick up, with entertainment venues and free food either way.

Also, they're supposedly going to fix the ai.

Also, also, as others say - use specialists. The cat isn't supposed to be your only pal.

Specialized Pals work early on, but as you progress and start needing Pals for generating electricity, and 3 Pals to efficiently craft items at the assembly lines, and Ingots and Charcoal are still used in creation of some ammo so you need another Furnace if you want to make them without having to wait on your Refined Ingots or Palsteel, which means another Fire Pal...

This wouldn't actually be that much of a problem if we had supply lines and I could move my ranch and farms to a different base while still being able to feed my main base, and collect all the wool/honey from the ranch.

I'd still love to set a job priority for specific Pals.

Unless you need cake, a ranch with chickens on it laying eggs can support a base no problem (get ones with +work traits and raise the stat with souls as well). Farms require, what, three roles? They're highly inefficient and they take way too long to work. Ranches, meanwhile, just need the one role (the Pal producing goods).

I'd also consider dismantling the log/stone nodes or swapping out woodcutting/mining pals for ones with more useful roles. If you've got 20k logs/stone sitting in chests, that's 3-6 pals that are using up space/resources for something you don't really need.

Basically, toss a ranch with a chicken or two on it at each of your bases, and avoid farming/logging/stone unless you're low on said resources. My main base just has a kindling+transporter Pal or two, one or two producers (chicken, cow, bee), electricity producers. and the rest are crafters. Avoid useless stuff like Pals cooling a fridge.

The Pal Ai and Pathing in bases is one of the top issues they are focusing on after critical fixes, as they have gotten the most complains about those 2 things. If you check the roadmap in the discord its something they want to fix asap as it deeply impacts the game.

The single purpose pals are awesome. Not a great fix though. Toss a Pengullet, the fridge is on lock. The little sparky hedge hog, keeps the electric tower held. Arsox even with no trees around could give two flicks about cooking food. Will totally go and do his thing on a furnace. Throw him at the food pot, come back... at the furnace again.

I'm almost to the point where I want to wall them into a room with the job and just let them do work until they break, but I can't bring myself to do that.

Pals can't open doors, so you could put stuff in different rooms and only open the doors at night/morning when they need to eat/sleep. They'll derp out for a few and then work on the thing in the room with them when they finally realize they can't get to the other junk.
