Why are adults friending kids on this game?

Should I be worried who my son is talking to on this game? I noticed a lot of neck beards playing.

I'm not sure what the question here is. Any game that has online chat has the capacity for wierdos to hang out and communicate with children, if children are allowed to chat.

How this can be combated is simple. Don't allow your children to use the public servers.

One can create a private server and absolutely control every person who connects. Older children can then talk to only the people on that server. This server can be controlled by a parent.

Are there nefarious individuals online in a game with 2 million active players. Absolutely. Are there convicted sex offenders in that group of 2 million active players. Undoubtedly.

You should be worried anytime your kids go out on the internet, and you should be around. That includes social media, youtube, Minecraft, Roblox, Fortnight, etc etc. Now this game may have cute Pokémon esk monsters, but it got more adult themes and jokes. So its up to you to decide whats best for your kid.

But as the attacks on the game is massive despite its popularity, this reads like a troll attemt. Because i just stated the obvious a parent should know and the quality of the question. Now there are a ton of "neckbeards" attacking this game and cheers for Nintendo and Game Freak to make action against this game, which suggest other wise. Maybe you are one of those "neckbeards" or are you actual worrying parent then use common sense any time your kid go out on internet, despite it being a proper kids games, or video for kids, etc etc.

It depends a lot on how old your son is (my own son is 15 so I do not monitor him as closely as I would if he were only 10).

When my son was younger I laid down some ground rules for him:
1 - No voice chat.
2 - Never reveal personal details about yourself. If somebody asks for your age, or where you live, take a snapshot of the screen (if possible), quit, and come tell me.

That said, I am in my mid-fifties. I have played a few MMORPGS, and usually I have no idea how old other players on the server are. I don't ask how old somebody is, what they identify as, or what their political or religious views are before I send an in-game friend request.
