Early Game Triple Shot Bow or Fire Crossbow will serve you well. Level 25 Makeshift Handgun will carry you, not so much the Musket it's powerful but really slow to reload. As for Melee...haven't found anything that helps a lot. Metal Spear is your best option in the middle but does barely anything. I can't speak for Endgame since i'm level 27 atm.

For those not there yet I would entirely skip the Shock Baton...it's not worth the resources wasted to make it.

Also side note: Lifmonk with it's weapon skill Sub Machine Guns shreds HP fast.

Pal are the core of this game so it would not be good if your character is much stronger than them. This lead to the problem that many fights turn into a wait and hope.
Except you should NEVER just be "Waiting and hoping" because that's a REALLY quick way to get all your pals killed and never get anywhere. you can chip in just as much damage as your pals if you're playing right....

My current setup lets me have 2 pals, and eventually 3 out at once. So that's 1 pal tanking, 2 pals running DPS, and myself chipping in with roughly equal damage.

Makes fights a breeze when you actually pay attention to the passives....
TBH; the musket can put out some serious harm on the bigger pals which saves up a LOT of arrows for your crossbow to the point you better be sure your target actually survives the initial hit if you want to captureit afterwards.... more than 1 Pal mett an unexpected and unintentional death because i underestimated just exactly how much damage that musket shot would do
i just got the handgun and its horribly underpowered just like every weapon before that. pals that are like level 20 (im lvl 30) take way too many bullets that they just dont seem worth it except chipping away at the end. just riding my chillet ive been using since i got it makes quick work and doesnt cost any materials except food. so far theres no incentive for me to actually use the guns cause when i run out of ammo i gotta farm materials again. idk about better schematics cause maybe those are way better but the base weapons are trash. the only thing i see them being good for is for low level mobs if you wanna farm exp.

Gawd the musket has cost me a lucky pal or two cause it does so much..
You are in an environment where cutesy monsters dominate and can wipe an entire army with a WWE-esque body slam -- of course you are weak.

...

Then again, you can always tweak your server settings and boost your "Damage to pals" by 2 times as much.
Can't say I agree.

I feel ranged weapons are very useful, especially when you gain access to poison and burning ammo.
Those DOT effects are pretty useful imo
Handguns are underpowered compared to Crossbow (and ease of finding higher quality crossbow blueprints compared to handguns).
Crossbow ammo is also far cheaper, either to buy or craft.

I'm not sure if there is a range or damage falloff difference.
The only advantage I know of is that handguns have multiple shots before reloading, so you can (maybe?) get higher DPS out of a handgun - but it'll chew through the ammo to do so. That's really the tradeoff there, and if you're willing to spend the extra money or time/materials for the ammo.

Personally, I tried both handguns, wasn't impressed, and went back to blue-quality crossbow. Later found an even better crossbow pattern.

Up to a certain point, Pals are intended to be the main damage source.
Late-game, it depends on build. Get a full team of Pals that boost player attack and a good quality Rifle? Pal that applies elemental damage to players attack?
Or go with a pal that launches weaponry like the egg-laying grenade launcher toucan?

Either way can supposedly do insane damage with the right build and prep....

you want to run through every dungeon you can , the two last chests seem to have a decent chance to drop schematics a blue verion of a comman weapon seems to be abotu double damage or more.

or use mounted pals/ equitable ones

the melee weapons are pretty weak but you do need something to do chip damage with to get those HP's down
make a crossbow, it's so far, seems to be the best weapon you could have, not only it does quite a decent damage but it's ammo are easy to make... i have a handgun, but i decide to go back to crossbow.... the handgun ammo is too pain in the butt to make and handgun dont really do much damage when compare to crossbow...

if you really want to use guns, get yourself a team of Lifmunk.. their gun are much stronger than any gun you can craft..
I love my Shotgun and Bolt Rifle. Blueprints for better versions make a huge difference too.
i use my ax/pickax to hit monsters. the only weapon worth getting (early) is a poison bow. crossbows will easily be replaced by later weapons, but keep in mind that you CAN gain more tech points through items. so you're not barred from getting a 100% tech tree, but it will take a long time if you keep getting things that'll be replaced eventually.
I mostly use them to get wild Pals closer to zero HP when I know an attack from my Pal would knock them out. When catching a ton of chickipi to empower my egg-laying shiny I had to downgrade to a spear to tap them without one-shotting them.
I find that having an overpowered weapon isn't really the goal.

I prefer using weapons to weaken enemies and have my own pal focus on the same target as me. Right now I'm level 32 and I don't have complains about my regular old crossbow.
Crossbow and Musket will be the two best ranged weapons for a majority of the game and you can definitely feel it in comparison to most melee options until you start farming for rare recipes for other firearms in the late game. As far as progression goes, I wouldn't bother with handguns; they're reliable to fire and technically has comparable dps to the musket, but shreds through handgun ammo to acquire the same results. If you have a pal attacking, the long reload of the musket isn't a big hindrance. Save the tech points on something else.

Helps that their respective ammo types are very easy to find in the game, so you likely won't need a melee weapon.
