Can I move structures without destroying them?

Nope, destroy and rebuild.

The good news is you get all the resources back, so all it costs is the construction time.

Open build menu and press C i think for disassembly mode.

You can disassemble them to get the resources back.

Like others said just go in build menu press c and destroy it. You get the ressources back and can just rebuild elsewhere.

its just a shame the items dont go back into chests or at the very least just stays on the floor the amount of items that weigh more than you can carry without spending points into carry or pals

It would be nice if you could move built objects as long as pals aren't currently working on it. I like to make my base look nice and it can be hard to position things properly the first time, so it ends up taking quite a bit of time to place it well.
