Problem with kindling fires? Anyone else?
So every time I want to produce metal bars or charcoal, I have to add a fire pal to my team and throw it at the oven to get production going. Is that how it is supposed be?

Fire pals in the base ignore anything besides torches to ignite. Not even the heating unit seems to count as a task for them.

They shouldn't be ignoring it. It's quite possible they are just having issues pathing to it. Try moving the furnace to a more open area. If it's already in an open area, try putting the kindling pal back in the box then resummoning them to reset them.

I dont use torches and have no problem with this. Just avoid using a kindler with a bunch of other skills as those tend to get prioritized over cooking/smelting for some reason.

I have 2. one always runs to the cooking pot and the other to the furnace to make metal. maybe try removing the torches?

When I was using a lot of torches, I found pals spent a lot of time running around igniting them, which took priority away from furnace/cooking pot. But they never ignored it, I currently have two kindling pals on duty, whenever I start a task in the pot/furnace they drop everything else and get to it.

Hmm... I used to have the same issue in my first base even without torches.

Placing the furnaces indoor or outdoor also did not make a difference.

I will experiment a little bit but it seems to be not too common.

fire pets have an unnatural obsession with torches i remade my base without torches and it works fine wait for lamps to enjoy your lighting fun!

To add to the discussion: I constantly have issues with not being able to create ingots and it's really holding up my progress. I have 2 Foxparks who have ignited the furnace at first and after a few ingots just walk away, never to return. Now I've added an Arsox and he could not care less either.

When I throw them at my furnace, the game tells me there is no direct job for them. I have the same problem with my logging site and stone pit, where the "specialists" refuse to see a doable job, but at least there I can go out mining and lumberjacking myself.

Getting them out of the base and then assign them again doesn't change anything, neither does removing the few torches I had placed (they weren't lighting those either).

I hoped I could assign specific jobs with the Monitoring Stand, but that isn't the case either. So right now I have 9 pals, where 3 love to assist building stuff, 1 occasionally waters some seeds and the rest agrees that there is absolutely nothing to do at my base, while all production just remains dormant. 😅

Arrogant Arsox, just chilling on my High Quality Workbench, right next to the job he refuses to do! 🧐

Update: based on other suggestions online, I can conclude that sleeping or restarting the game does not work for me, but I have found one suggestion that does: when I remove Arsox from the base Pals and add him to my party, then he actually starts working the furnace when I throw him at it!

I'm having the same issue I can't progress being nothing will smet the ore I even tried blocking an arsox in to a room with just furnaces and still wouldn't do anything.

For now: Make sure pals have a clear path to move to their obective and don't use anything that needs to be ignited. Also they seem to need atleast 1 tiles width x 2 tiles height to work correctly. I.E. if you have an oven at the bottom and place a roof directly above it your pals won't work on it. ( same goes for medium sized pals and beds )

Same issue but in reverse, no torches lit but furnace and cooking pot used as soon as I set the recipe. the bigger issue is I have a tombat that will not use any of the stuff I put down to keep the pals happy, its the only pal who won't.

Fire Pals get stuck very often if you add any form of lighting fixture to your base including electric lamps that don't need them. And certain items Pals will get stuck on anyways like the lumber node, skill up items like the farming Mill/toolbox/etc. Many Fire Pals roam around aimlessly when done working cuz Kindling is their only skill so they tend to get stuck in couch cushions like a cat.

There's several things that can cause this:

* PAL has other skills that are in demand elsewhere in the base. If you find and hatch a Scorching Egg, a Flammabelle is a great example of this problem, because it will hang out in the ranch, slowly producing flame organs, rather than actually cooking anything. Foxparks is a great Kindling pet as a result, because he only has Kindling and won't get distracted.

* PAL has too many things to do. This is probably the most common issue, and is related to having a bunch of torches that the PALs want to turn on. This can also be caused by Heaters, which are entirely unnecessary (campfires do the same thing without needing a PAL to blow on it) or having multiple kindling jobs queued (you also have ore you are turning into ingots while trying to cook food).

* Pal is upset. This can happen early game when you're just feeding them raw berries. Give them better food, and a spa to hang out in, or the PALs will be grumpy more than productive. Generally, you'll want to provide PALs with cooked berries soonest, then when you unlock wheat and milling, provide them Jam Buns or Pancakes. Late game, when you get veggie crops unlocked, Salads are great and give a work speed bonus. Pizza technically is better than Salads, but requires an electric oven, and are relatively slow to make.

* Pal is stuck/confused/lost. Remove PAL from the working area and into your box, then back again. This will reset its position and help it get back to work.

Just put your furnace outside in the open, far from any disturbance. See if it works. Then slowly find out whats causing the pathing issue by moving it
