Burning damage on structures is WAY overtuned.
Fire burns

I think every gets that

But in this game, fire is basically thermite... it burns WAY too fast for structures. Build a 40x40 wood platform, some buildings on it... light ONE square on fire, and the entire thing will burn down in under about 15 seconds.

The damage rate needs to be adjusted. Either less damage, or a slower tic rate.

Even with multiple water pals trying to fight the fire, its simply impossible to put it out for how quickly it spreads.

Fire should be a challenge, but at its current tuning, there isnt a way to fight it once its burning. The only option is to vastly limit your build options for how you want to build your base/town. That removes a lot of fun and creativity from the game.

At the very least, put a difficulty option in the world config for how much damage/fast fire burns structures, so it can be toned down for those wanting to have creative freedom without worrying so much about 20 hours of work being gone in 15 seconds.

Go into building mode and disassemble the structures that are on fire and it will stop the spread.

Don't build a mansion out of wood.

Wasnt so much a mansion, as it was a pirate like port town. Wooden docks, mismatched wooden structures all over the place, walkways, etc etc. Was quite spectacular to look at (even as it was burning).

Ya, mine burnt down. I think don't build a wooden base at all or only a small one with nothing important in it. Keep your stuff on the ground or separated enough to not all burn. When you get to level 10 (I think that is when) you unlock stone. That is the time to build your mansion :steamhappy:

Yeah, i get that now, shame really. It REALLY puts a limit on the creativity aspect of the games building system, especially in the first 10 hours.

Yeah then that can be tough, I would suggest waiting until level 18 for a huge base. That is when you get the stone structures. I don't think fire damages stone to much. I am just now starting to build in stone because what happened to you happened to me as well. I also went out and got a few more water tames just to be sure. Good luck!

They are planning a big update to building from what I've heard. So maybe in a few months they will fix this. I expect they are swamped right now dealing with 6 million players.

I may have accidentally burned down my first base because I had just built the fire crossbow and accidentally fired it. No one can prove it though.
Grimzy Jan 23, 2024 @ 4:19pm
Thats why you have water Pals in the base. When a structure catches fire and you did not obstruct it the Water pals will run and put the fire out.

I have had anything catch on fire (aside from myself). How do you get your stuff to catch on fire, are some of the raids fire Pals that shoot everything or will enemy factions eventually throw fire grenades at me?

That said, I wish we could get the fire off of us by rolling or something

I won't say who, but someone tried to fight off an attack with a torch and likely set the building on fire with it (I mean, who would think that would be a thing) :steamhappy:

Man, won't someone finally catch this serial arsonist that can apparently appear between games? Must be some kinda hidden pal or a hacker.

In my original post I covered this already.

I had 3 water pals, they simply cant keep up with the rate that fire spreads.

I don't think I had seen a water pal yet when my base burned down. Regardless, it burns too fast. My entire base was engulfed before I could do anything about it.

Giving me flashbacks to Don't Starve Together. I played with someone who wanted to fight mobs with their lighter. The now on fire mob, go neat base, and burned everything down.
