I have two potential solutions.
The first solution. Follow this guide here and do the process twice:https://github.com/xNul/palworld-host-save-fix. One for you, and one for your friend. Be sure to read the known bugs on how to fix some additional issues.
The second solution. Theoretically should be the same, but without needing some extra knowledge.
Copy the folder C:\Users\{name}\AppData\Local\Pal\Saved\SaveGames\{someNumber}\{SomeHex} somewhere else as a backup. Make sure you do this step because we need one of the file in there.
First off, have his new character join the guild in game. You are currently controlling your friend's character. That is because in the Players folder, the host has the character 00000000000000000000000000000001.sav. There should be up to two extra files. One is your .sav, and the other is your friend. Your friend is very like the one with the smaller file size. Your save is probably the hex with a larger file size. Now, delete the ...00001 and rename YOUR sav to 00000000000000000000000000000001.sav (something like 8CC43CDC000000000000000000000000.sav -> 00000000000000000000000000000001.sav). Try logging in again and your friend will probably need to reinvite you to the guild . You may also need to go to the palbox, take every single one of them, drop them, and pick them all back up. Hopefully, after this, you are fully in control of your character.
Now for your friend, rename the 00000000000000000000000000000001.sav from the BACKUP folder to your friend's save hex (should be the sav file that's smaller). Copy and paste the backup file to the real save folder. Repeat same process as before. Hopefully your friend is now in control of their own character.
