Difference between Gathering, Transporting and Farming?
Unfortunately, there aren't any additional information about what a certain Work Suitability does and I couldn't distinguish these. I want to build a farm where I have certain pals assigned to the farm. I know that Gathering collects the grown food. But I've also seen that some Pals also bring the gathered foods to my boxes or feed box. Is that caused by Transporting? If yes, is then Farming used for i. e. a ranch where Vixy's can farm items?

Farming is used for animals in the farm.
Transportation means they pickup items and bring them to the closest box
Gathering is for crops.

Gathering is harvesting farm plots. Transport is picking up, and storing any, and all items in base range. Farming is specfically for pals that produce. Like sheep, who produce wool. Beegardes who produce honey, and so forth.

Looks like you've puzzled it all out correctly. If a pal has the farming icon then they produce something there. It can get confusing when you have overlap(such as Lamball) but it becomes clearer with specialized ones such as Melpaca.

Farming pals go to the ranch and produce certain resources over time (Lamballs wool, Chickipis eggs, Maus coins, etc.), these need to put into storage boxes by pals with transportation skills. Gather can also be more accurately described as 'harvesting' as it's used to turn finished crops into usable items, which again need transport pals to get them into storage chests..

farming is the ranch, typically any pal with farming will explain what they drop there in their ability. Transporting is pals will gather items and move them to boxes/containers. Gathering is for picking the gardens and such, I dont know if they transport it also but I dont think so.

If you lack transporters, items will be sitting around all over the place

So for an automatic farm, I'd need a Planting, Watering, Gathering and Transporting Pal each, correct?

Yeah for berries, wheat, etc. you need all of those covered. Some pals can do more than one of those so you don't specifically need 4 pals, that's just worst case scenario.

Most pals can cover multiple tasks and the cyclical nature of field needs means that they can do quite a lot on your base, but ideally the pal that should reseed the plot shouldn't the also the same one getting distracted by carrying berries to the food box (a reason why lifmunks can be a little annoying to have on the base since they have way too many skills that will distract them from logging or seeding).

Thank you for the info, really appreciate it!

I recommend you build chests directly next to the resource with enough space to move around it.

Transporter pals get stuck very easily if the have to path to anything more complicated than that.

Also, food will be automatically carried to the feed box (unless it's full) so build that close to the farm as well. Plus it will be less distance for your farm workers to go feed.

Well there are different pals that can do different things and interacts with the different work benches you can make.

Farming is a multi layer thing, you need a planter, a waterer, and a harvester to get the food off of the farms.

There is mining which you can set up for your base by the requesite items, and you need a miner pal.

and lastly there is lumberjack pals with the tree plantation that will constatly give wood so long as you have a pal to do things with...

Also some pals do multiple things , some will be able to build and work on workbenches while others do just one thing. It takes some experimentation and catching of the pals.

Expanding on this you can also force pals to take the product to a cooler if the feeder is already full of stuff that they farm but can't stack there. You can, for example, have your feeder be berries, then cotton candy in the rest of the slots. They always eat from left to right. So as long as the berries don't run out, the new stuff can be stacked in the cooler.
