game is still fun as hell.
I think the pokemon factor is adding to popularity. No idea what that would do long term. But without pokemon battling or raising I do not think it will be like main line pokemon games.
I know it's early access, but in the current state it doesn't have lasting appeal. Single map is going to get boring quickly, especially in multiplayer, and there's just not much left to do once you reach level 30 or so and get into the ingot grind.
Perhaps you're new to video games, but that's the normal life cycle of a popular game. Apart from MMOs and the like which keep dropping major content over time, a normal game will release, get its fanfare, then go quiet.
For example, who's talking about Baldur's Gate 3 now? The answer? Nobody. Does that mean the most critically acclaimed game of 2023 was nothing more than a fad? Of course not.
