The only thought i have is the Eggs and their real time to hatch scenario may be what tells me if the servers pause or not when player activity is not detected.
It's probably the same system as in Ark where the world goes in stasis when nobody's there.
And each morning I log into my dedicated server, I have to run to every base and medicate almost every pal, because they are all starving and sick/injured in some way. I can't confirm that they path or collect resources, seems more like they just freeze, but the clock is still ticking so they start to suffer status effects and starvation because they can't go to get food, but are still being clocked.
To answer about raids, no, you not only need to be online, you also need to be in your base for those anyway, you are good.
1: Base raids do not occur if no players are online.
2: Some resource gathering will continue, some will not unless a player is online.
The biggest reason to host a dedicated server versus just a coop MP session is so people can play when others (such as the host) are not online. If you always play together and never play apart there's really no reason to use a dedicated server.
