It's always random and does not care about the passives of the parents. You just have to breed a lot of them.

You are exactly 100% wrong here. I have been breeding eggs all weekend to combine Work Slave, Lucky, Artisan and Legend and had no issue doing it.

I have also found that the easiest way to move a combo quickly is to have a blank on the other side.

Today I moved my combo to my Anubis, A cow, a llama and few others. Now, out of 12 or so eggs I typically get one perfect and the rest are a mix of them or they have some of them and mutate to other things.

But you absolutely combine parents to get what you want.
