Need Help Please Finding my Character!

So I played last night for 8 hours in a multiplayer game with my son. Is there anyway to select the character I was playing to I can play solo for a little bit while he is gone? How in the world do you do it? Is my multiplayer character somehow saved and can only be used in online games? Any clarification would be great.

From further analysis, it seems Your character and pals are all saved to the "world" that was created, kind of like Mine craft but I have to grind all over again to play by myself? No problem, just want to know.

That is correct; according to what was said on the official discord, character transfer is coming way farther down the line of early access.
