Multiplayer performance issues while hosting
So it seems like there's some weird issue crushing performance while hosting non dedicated,

4090 / i9-13900k 64gb ram

Single player performance is fine

When hosting a multiplayer server as soon as a single persons starts joining it drops my gpu from 90% useage to 30% and fps from 180-200 to 50-80 and when this person leaves GPU useage increases again

What could be causing this? As I feel like this shouldn't be an issue on my end

Interesting, is that person by any chance 50-80 fps?

Finally someone to discuss this with. I havent seen many other similar issues

No, 2 friends 3070/i7s no issues on there ends (besides lower tier builds)

Haven't tested it a ton yet but its just so strange, single player is just perfect no issues at all

Its only when someone starts connecting in multiplayer that performance just goes out the window when starting the server everything's fine but as soon as the first connect starts it drops until they leave

Really hoping to get an official word on this as I feel like my build shouldn't be the issue here

Same problem on my 7800xt, usage goes from 99% to locked 80% and my fps dips into the low 60's

Its so strange tested it out further you should as well

This is loading in and checking instantly

1440p 240hz

Single player world (multiplayer disabled)

193 fps cpu 35% memory 22% gpu 83%

Single player world (multiplayer enabled but I'm solo)

91 fps cpu 45% memory 32% gpu 36%

Trying to get as much info on this as possible from others experiencing the same as with the popularity sky rocketing reporting anything is borderline impossible

Exactly this, when I first start the world before anyone joins my performance is great, then when someone joins slowly my gpu usage drops to below 60% and stays around there and my fps stays around 51 fps

I was losing my mind why GPU was not being utilized in this game.

Solo (multiplayer disabled) cpu 50% gpu 100% epic settings 120fps+

Solo (multiplayer enabled) cpu 40% gpu 50%-60% epic settings 60fps+

Solo (multiplayer enabled) cpu 40% gpu 30% lowest settings 80fps

Anyone know if a dedicated server running on steam will help the hosts fps?

Weirdly it does. My game performance while running the dedicated server on the same pc is almost the same as playing solo with multiplayer disabled. Which is freaking weird but whatever.

been debating on trying this but really didn't want to go through it all to try and fix it, and it makes no sense that this is even a fix to begin with, hopefully this can get figured out

The game heavily loads the host when playing multiplayer. Instead of sending only necessary information to the host from the client, it loads almost everything the clients are doing onto the host. That's why the host's game slows down more the more people join, to the point where it will eventually crash from lack of memory.

except not everyone has this issue, my friend who has a much weaker system can host with no performance lost non dedicated / while when i host non dedicated it runs horribly
