Convex vs Concave eye design?

Something i noticed when playing Genshin and other Anime-esque games is that unlike normal eyes which are Convex, the eyes of character in that game is Concave.

Clearly the most obvious choice of eye design is the realistic Convex ones, right? As it turns out it does run into the disadvantage of having the eyes "bulge" out of the head and look somewhat awkward depending on the art-styles.

While the convex initially makes you think something is wrong since well, eyes are spheres. But they do carry the advantage giving you the illusion of a spherical eye without bulging as well as letting the eyes follow the camera a bit. As seen with this famous dragon illusion

Can see that this game uses Convex eyes, so i do wonder if it actually would be better to swap to concave ones instead due to the anime style, least for some face options.
