They spent most of the development time on the pal animations.
Also they are currently still actively working on the game https://steamdb.info/app/1623730/depots/
Hell most games in UE use store assets hell the trees in Days Gone which is a 1st party sony game are from the UE store people just don't notice it when the game is above average.
With the growth of things like the Unreal Marketplace and AI, expect to see many more games done this way so it's just a matter of weeding out which are proper games and the ones that are just lazy flips. This game is the real deal.
And, as mentioned before, they are perfect as placeholders, and even if they aren't - the game is fun, and for Early Access it is not only really polished but it already has so much content it could be a full release.
It's very clear the game is not a full asset flip. Does it use some built-in UE5 features and functionality? Yes... because it's there for that reason. To be used.
But there are very unique things going on in this game that other games don't do.
You mean they are USING assets that they PAID FOR that are AVAILABLE for use.
That's not an asset flip.
What is the difference in them paying an artist, to make a new asset, and paying an artist, for an asset they already made?
ALL devs now use assets. UE5 comes with a crap load of them preinstalled because it makes things way easier. No dev is coding in walking and running anymore. (unless they made their own engine) they just load up the shooter game prefab and start from there with the basics already implements.
Other things THEY SHOULD use assets for. Why would I want them to spend 20 hours making a firepit and animation when they could just buy one for like $10 and be done with it.
Why would I need them to make a grass texture, or trees? or even character creation. ... Just edit it so they fit and then throw them in.
There is literally no reason to reinvent the wheel here. A wheel is a wheel. Use the one that's already made and move on to the meat and potatoes.
As for grab and go. No. They work heavily on craftopia still. I trust pocket pair.
ALSO, the potential CASH from doing DLC in the future makes me trust the ♥♥♥♥ out of them. YOu can ALWAYS trust greed. A pal collecting game where you can sale DLC after full release of Pal skins, abilities, new palls and regions? No way you pass up that oppurtunity.
Yeah I just don't see it man.
Art work specifically for a game is very likely to look much better.
I recommend buying the game on steam version!
While fair, not every studio has the budget to commission new from-scratch assets.
Asset flip suggests the entire game is built on bought assets and flipped for sale (see "The Day Before")....
That is NOT the case with this game. It has SOME purchasable assets yes, but calling it an "asset flip" is disingenuous.
He asked what the difference is. That's just the most obvious one. But if it's true that 1M plus bought it on Steam alone, seems they got their budget.
True! But they didn't have that before release. I'm sure most of it will get invested back into the game itself.
