Will An Unconscious NPC Wake Up Eventually?

As the title asks. I tried to capture a merchant, but my last hit was too hard and he got knocked out. I built a foundation on top of him so if he woke up and tried to escape he couldn't. Do they eventually wake up or do they just respawn?

You murdered him. He's just dead, not unconscious.
NPCs supposedly respawn, but the first NPC I encountered did not; however the second one I encountered has continually respawned.

after all when you knock pals unconscious you get meat or body parts.

I think they respawn after a good night sleep but do check in the NPCs village which it has 2 NPCs merchants has him there and this time I suggest you NOT to try to capture them as Pals or else you will stigmatised with "crime"
