Breeding so far is awful - rant

the cakes require take sooooooooooooooooooooooo freaking long to make which is a requirement to make your pals breed. that is not what is irritating me though...

i put two birds together because I got one with increased speed and wanted a better baby....what I got instead was a freaking electric wolf with the increased speed...NONE OF THE BABIES SO FAR HAVE BEEN EITHER SPECIES AS THE PARENTS, WHY ARE THEY RANDOM?!?!?

babies should always at least be the same species as one of the parents, the fact that so far they've been totally random and not even of the same elemental types of the parents is frustrating and stupid

maybe I'm missing something here? i doubt there is a really in depth breeding guide out yet, if there is I can't find it

Haven't had the problem with the cake. Even having a surplus of cake and the breeding can't keep up with how much cake there is. I did successfully breed a mount with swift, runner and nimble. It took some tries, but wasn't that horrible. More or less 8 tries in total to get first swift and runner on one, then to get the nimble there as well.

If cake is hard to make, try using 3-4 kindling pals and using the kindling upgrade. Cake in no time. Also using more than ONE cooking station.

Because of this we dont know how Breeding works in this World and why the Eggs can BE random.

sounds to me like you have to little patience, if you breed a pal that has an alt possibility with a pal of the type that alt can be, like broncherry with an aqua type you'll get the alt, Broncherry Aqua. if you want a specific pal, you'll need to breed the same species together, or pray to RNGesus for a decent roll. there are some combinations that make specific pals though, you'll need to find them.

There are no rolls. It works on a breed power averaging system between the parents. If parent A has breed power of 560 (surfent) and parent B has a breed power of 580 (incineram noct) then the child will have a breed power of 570 (anubis). There are 18 exceptions that will always result in a specific child.

The breeding feels fixed and not total random which I don't like unless I have very bad RNG on my playthrough at the moment. Example I put the huge white dragon boss with the electric huge yellow boss together in breeding and all I have getting is the huge water snake dragon things, 7 in a row and nothing else. I tried the next day in case it was random for each day and nope, still another water snake dragon hatched

Long story short, get a creature with level 3 or 4 kindling.

You have to breed two of the same type to get the same type.

You can never get a pal with lower breed power than the lowest power parent (lower power is better), with the exception of some of the 18 specific breed combos. Notably shadowbeak is way lower than either of it's parents.

Many of the things you can breed to I would consider legendary. The simplest way to do it is to go to wildlife preserve 1 and capture a grizzbolt and a penking (grizzbolt only spawns during the day). Breed them together to get Pyrin. Breed Pyrin+Grizzbolt to get relaxaurus. Relax+grizzbolt to get orserk. Grizzbolt+orserk to get helzypher (you can also just catch one at level 26 ish). Orserk+helzypher to get Astegon.

Breed Chillet+celeray to get kitsun. Breed Kitsun+Astegon to get shadowbeak which has a breed power of 60, the lowest of anything you can breed to. The only things you can't get from this method are:
Blazamut, Suzaku, Suzaku aqua, Jetragon, Paladius, Necomus, Jorm Ignis, Frostallion.

Shadowbeak lets you breed to everything else in the game and all you need is a grizzbolt to get started. Mossanda + rayhound also breeds to grizz if you prefer to get that. Moss is easier to breed lucky onto since it's got a lot more breed options early on.

It is important to note that some wild pals have guaranteed traits. Every cattiva caught in the wild will have coward for instance. Breeding does not force these traits on the species so if you breed a cattiva from non cattiva parents, it won't have coward.

This matters because many of the late game bosses like jorm and anubis have unique traits that you can only get by catching them. These CAN be bred onto new children, which is pretty awesome.
