"Shiny" rate?

Is the spawn rate of the "shinies" (the special glowing pals) known? How high is it? My wife and i found 4 already and killed one by accident. The chance doesnt seem too low.

i've played for about 15 hours so far and i've only seen one and it was a level 30, but i'm only level 15 because i'm bad at combat so i level up slowly. I imagine you'd find them more in high level areas

I guess it wont be as low as in the pokemon games like 1 in 4k but im not sure. Havent found one in hours anymore
